Second by about 1L to PP at Royal Ascot last time out. He’s certainly talented enough to reverse the form here…
July 9, 2022 at 12:49 #1606221Perfect power for me with a alcohol free saver , I know some think she’s not trained on but I liked her run last time

July 9, 2022 at 16:33 #1606292Wow, wd winners. And Rob Hornby, jeezus, this guy is hot. Oisin who?
July 9, 2022 at 16:53 #1606297Alcohol Free probably had the best form going into this with her Sussex and Coronation victories.
I’ve always thought she was probably at her very best on a softer surface (those two races were on a softer surface). However, it was by no means as certain as some thought. On good-firm was only beaten 3/4 length in the Falmouth at this meeting last year. Also on good-firm, beaten just 2 lengths in the 1000 Guineas on what was her first try (possibly too free rather than ground the issue) at a mile.Value Is EverythingJuly 9, 2022 at 17:12 #1606303Congrats SP! She made it look easy at the end…
Agree with your points, GT. But her form doesn’t really strike me as being a pure sprinter. However, both Perfect Power and Flaming Rib just tanked. Perhaps the Royal Ascot race had taken its toll?
July 9, 2022 at 20:13 #1606323It was a draw race wasn’t it? Taking nothing away from the winner as she was clearly the best by some margin but 14 beats 13 beats 12, no excuses for Perfect Power on that score as he raced with them but having backed Flaming Rib I’d give him a pass given nothing in the nearside group got into the race. Double Or Bubble’s done pretty well I thought considering that.
July 9, 2022 at 23:58 #1606349From what happened in the Bunbury Cup – winner coming up the nearside rail – the ground was no slower / softer nearside.
Twilight Jet and Flaming Ribb oi the stand side group raced second and third overalll too. So can’t see much difference in the initial pace of both sides either.
Possibly those drawn near side didn’t have anything to take them further into the race.
However, Flaming Ribb was the only one in the neaside group I could expect to get involved in the finish.
Take Perfect Power out and the other fancied horses pretty much ran their races – Naval Crown, Artorious and Creative Force in second, third and fourth racing fairly close together.
So I’d say the probability is the best horses came to the fore and both Perfect Power and Flaming Ribb just failed to fire. Judged by the Racing Post RTF (ran to form) figure Hugo Palmer is not in the form he was. Perfect Power has won good races on firmer. so his trainer blaming the ground is nonsense in that respect. But still possible he’s picked up a slight injury or can’t hanle too much racing on the surface..Value Is Everything -
