Very interesting tweet from trainer James Given last week.
[b:3pw9qu36]
Paul Roy to me (James Given) at Tatts yearling sales last year “judge me on the levy negotiation and the sale of the Tote, you can have my job if we fail”[/b:3pw9qu36]
June 9, 2011 at 11:41 #359736Sadly he didn’t specify which job…
The guys got more of them than ‘nineteen jobs’ Nevison and I’m sure there are a few at bankrupt banks that he’d only be too happy to offload on Given.
June 9, 2011 at 21:26 #359825Paul Roy’s position is surely untenable. Not only has he thus far failed to deliver the outcomes that he so publicly voiced as being critical for racing, he has managed to alienate some of the key partners (Betfair and Betfred) that racing now has to work with.
I think he was up against it on both the fronts mentioned in the post above but in the salary bracket he is in failure is normally followed by a swift exit and this must surely be the case here.
It’s not only the failure to deliver that is the problem of course, it’s been the manner of the failure.
Pride now needs to be swallowed, realities faced and the best made of a bad job. Sadly, Roy’s rhetoric suggests that the wounds he carries from the recent skirmishes will be too great for him to get back on the charger plucky wee Fred unceremoniously dumped him off.
I hope the members of his team who’ve battled bravely alongside their uninspiring leader manage to survive the fray and go on to show their true mettle in battles new.
(Kind of drifted into that battleground analogy there – don’t know where it came from but too tired to change it!)
June 9, 2011 at 21:54 #359829Roy should have gone after he lambasted Betfair and invested in Betfair simultaneously. No leader wishing to cultivate managerial credibility would engage in such schizophrenic behaviour.
Canute-like, he continues to deny his own fallibility. "The only person so far I have read about is James Given waving his finger in the air," he said, in today’s Racing Post, when asked to respond to criticism of his tenure.
Crisis? What crisis!
June 10, 2011 at 01:01 #359856Whatever happened about the Roy sharegate scandal? Silvoir assured us he would get back to us on it. I must have missed that!

There is nothing to get back on. As Roy stated at the time it’s "
an issue manufactured by a few mischievous and ill-informed individuals
" – so that was that then.
The only good thing about Roy is he is only contracted to work two days a week for his £100,000 a year (plus pension and possibly Health Care and other benefits) just thing of the ******* mess Racing would be in if he was doing a full week.
June 10, 2011 at 10:41 #359907That’s a shame, it would have been interesting to hear Paul Struthers’ take on sharegate.
I realise he’s a busy man, what with all the tweets over boycotting FIFA sponsors over their corrupt and dislikeable leader held in place by a bunch of cronies and seemingly unsackable.
An interesting line of thinking for one of Paul’s Pauls.

Not strictly true amigo. I said "If BHA have anything to say I will post it on here."
June 10, 2011 at 14:14 #359945Silvoir …in the words of that old Jim Reeves classic " you can tell your friend who’s with you , he ‘ll have to go ….
time for clearing of desks ….

June 10, 2011 at 15:59 #359962Silvoir, old friend, I was watching a film called
Inside Job
last night. It discussed Dick Fuld, the former boss of Lehmans, which went the same way as Mr Potter’s old bank.
This bit reminded me of Mr Potter’s detachment from reality.

Maybe it’s a similar private elevator set-up at Rabble HQ if Mr Potter’s recent pronouncement that he only knows of one man calling for his head is correct. If you can catch his attention in the 2-3 second window between Chauffeur and Elevator, maybe you can point him in the direction of this thread to put him straight.
