    Palace Pier 6/1

Throwing a free bet at him, dont want to put actual money on him until we get some idea of his target

Id be pretty dissapointed if he wasn’t aimed at the race

Especially with St Marks basilica brushing aside mishriff and Lord north having a set back

Mishriff will have another go at SMB I think. Palace Pier I still see going to France. Gosden could aim both in this and lose to SMB, whereas if he split them at least he’s likely to get the French Group 1 win.

It would be a cracker of a race though if Gosden wants to go for it – SMB v PP.

Surely the owners want PP to step up in trip its huge for his stallion value

It was only a speculative free bet so no harm done if he goes elsewhere :good:

Shame about SMB, now it seems to be time to find one against the front two in the market, who both have a bit to prove.

The one at the prices which seems far too big is Macswiney. 18’s looks huge for an Irish Guineas winner who edged out Poetic Flare. But the ground is probably against him. If it ends up Good to Soft, or worse (not looking likely), I’ll be straight in.

I like Mohaafeth, but the 6/1 looks stingy enough. Thinking cap remains clamped on.

Hopefully Mo gets a better tactical ride from Crowley this time around, just because you are on a hold up horse doesn’t mean you have to sit out the back in a muddling run race and try to out quicken horses that are also quickening.

My worry about Mishriff is that he had a rather hard race over a trip further than his ideal and it may have left a mark. Assume Love will try and cut out the donkey work up front as she did at Royal Ascot but it could be a stop start pace……bare in mind if they do that it falls very much into the hands of the specialist miler in Alcohol Free.

Good ground, hopefully Derby chucks a bit of water on. Have backed Macswiney e/w who looks a really big price at 18’s to me.

    Its a really interesting race

Alcohol free is a very interesting runner, doesnt look a great deal of pace in the race if she was to settle and it turns into a 3f sprint for home she is surely the fastest horse

But she can be quite free going

Never really taken to mishriff or love

Macswiney I like for the champion stakes if the ground is soft but his profile suggests he has no chance on good ground

Mohaafeth looked a bit of a bridle merchant last time so has it to prove

Cant really find a confident bet but looking forward to watching

Paddy and betfair paying 3 places

Given that alcohol free is a very doubtful stayer and that mac swiney won’t like the ground Alenquer looks worth a bet e/w at 10s :good:

I’d personally have Mac Swiney in a non-stayers camp for the Derby(s) rather than a mudlarks camp. I’d be more confident with heavy ground sure, but I think the drop back in trip gives him a chance. A better chance than 5.2% anyway.

On purely ground I’d rule out macswinney and alcohol free. Mishriff I not sure of so by matter of deduction it’s love for me with alenquer the value bet.

Happy to be proven wrong but I don’t think Alenquer will be quick enough in a race that is highly unlikely to be run at an end to end gallop he needs what with dropping back in trip – yes he was given a hoplessly bad tactical ride in France last time out but it took him all of the 12F before he really got rolling.

The form of his Royal Ascot win hasn’t worked out at all with his rivals running a combined 6 times since without a win and too much is made of his Sandown defeat of the Derby winner – for me he looked a tailor made horse for the St Leger so it was surprising to me that they went this route when the Voltiguer seemed the obvious race for him.

I’ve played alcohol free , if she stays then I think she has the quality to win

Gosden – “This has been the only real target on home soil all season. I left him short of work for the Eclipse”.

Great. How is this sort of thing just allowed as the norm?
