I cant understand why they didn’t go for the Shadwell Fillies’ Mile (Group 1) instead of the Cheveley Park Stakes (Fillies’ Group 1) am i missing something here?
September 28, 2013 at 13:56 #452773Am not surprised they went for the 6f race GA. Joyeuse has had a tendencey to be keen in her races before today. Settling her at 6f pace would be a lot easier than at a mile at this stage of her career. Once learning to relax she can be stepped up to a mile. Stepping up 1f in trip is one thing, 2f quite another with an enthusiastic horse.

I agree with this – watching the race she was keen through the first furlong until they quickened the tempo. Saying that she was staying on as though 6f is too short for her. Perhaps if there had been something for her over 7 but alas there isn’t. I wouldn’t give up on her though.

September 28, 2013 at 17:56 #452804This proposition would have been more credible if posted BEFORE the Cheveley Park.

And even now, with the benefit of hindsight, I don’t agree.
Joyeuse received a moderate ride today, held up off a slow pace, this to me is why she failed to confirm Salisbury placings with Dorothy B, who was altogether better ridden here.
The 7f Oh So Sharp Stakes is the race Joyeuse should have run in.
But in any event she will be a better filly next year, especially on softer ground.

September 28, 2013 at 19:44 #452828She will make a better 3 y/o but if she needs to run at an unsuitably distance to learn to settle then surely the place for her to do that would be at home?

Saw Joyeuse at Salisbury GA, I thought she was value for a little more than winning distances there, idled a bit once in front. Should progress a bit once learning to settle fully. I would not judge her too much on today’s run, she’s better than that. However, from what I saw in the paddock at Salisbury, she is not very big, in my opinion Joyeuse lacks the scope to improve in to a Group 1 filly, Group 3 yes, Group 2 possibly but unlikely. It’s also not known how Mike Marshall’s move away from Warren Place may effect standards of form levels.
