Looking at them before the first at Newamarket he stated Chica Whopa was the clear pick of the paddock. Two minutes later when they put the eyecatchers up the two paddock eyecatchers were Folly Bridge & Sweet Clementine.
Not the first time this has happened and do viewers really deserve such contempt.July 8, 2010 at 09:15 #305381I’m not normally a viewer of Channel 4, but Simon Holt mentioned that his paddock pick was Yer Woman, so perhaps they’re all having a guess-up?

I heard that rory and feel Simon is pretty reliable and conscientious, he did have Yer Woman as his "going to post" positive as she was only one who hadn’t sweated up on the way to post in his opinion, meanwhile Johnny boy had a different horse entirely as the most relaxed in the paddock.
July 8, 2010 at 11:18 #305408Would be very interesting seeing what his profit/loss would be for £1 stake on all of his tips. Can’t remember him last tipping a winner. .
July 8, 2010 at 12:20 #305424Straying off thread but it would also be nice to see some kind of update on the Scoop 6 selections the team make on the Morning Line every Saturday and never once refer to during the main show.
And……..
Can we please have Big Mac back in the betting ring….it is hard to pinpoint exactly why but Tom Lee in particular is absolutely awful with zero scope for improvement and the line up of the whole show ( Francome/McGrath and Holt apart)seems all wrong to me.
Emma and Mike would be ok as occaisional presenters but they are not permanent main anchor material.

Its a long story Bob that has been discussed on here numerous times, but Channel 4 has decided to cut back on the number of presenters during the year. Alastair Down and Alice Plunkett over the jumps, and Catt and Emma for all their flat racing. Totally agree about using Big Mac much more and losing the horrendous Tom Lee.
July 8, 2010 at 19:25 #305512Tom Lee is dire. Who is the bloke making all these decisions on C4 racing. To be honest he wants sacking he’s about as much good for racing as Racing For Change is.
I dunno no-one in authority ever seems to use the brains they were born with. How they can seriously think they are doing the right things is beyond me and instead of admitting it they remain stubborn to the end.
July 8, 2010 at 22:23 #305540Good question Ian, and I think I’m right in saying that the wife of this bloke is the reason why Big Mac is hardly see anymore because he is seen as being sexist. No wonder the show is going down the plughole…
July 18, 2010 at 06:49 #307053Yesterday, Francome repeatedly referred to Gloucester’s trainer at Market Rasen as being Michael (grandfather) Scudamore. Very sloppy work.

What’s wrong with that?
July 18, 2010 at 08:39 #307060Nothing, apart from him not being the trainer.

Not the first time this has happened and do viewers really deserve such contempt.I don’t quite understand your indignation. What is "contemptuous" about a crossed wire? Why does an evident mistake make you feel so insulted? Paddock Pick for the 1st at Newmarket hardly equates to falsely declaring World War III, does it?
July 18, 2010 at 10:46 #307077Sorry Yeats but unless I am mistaken Gloucester is actually trained by Michael Scudamore, so Francome was correct

Who has suggested a war on the issue?
It was highly unlikely to have been pointed out if it had been an isolated incident rather than a too frequent occurrence, maybe you missed some of them.
In any case Francome is well known for his lazy type of punditry, even managing different tips and analysis for the same race in his various outlets for them.
If you enjoy that sort of thing good luck to you.July 18, 2010 at 11:26 #307085

Not watching C4 I wouldn’t know, but I still don’t quite see the link between trivial mistakes (no matter how regularly they’re made) and "contempt".
You might feel that Mr Francome is lazy, but what evidence do you have that it’s his fault that some junior assistant puts the wrong horse’s name on the screen? Why shouldn’t he alter a previously printed opinion when he sees the horses in the paddock? And how does any of this trivia add up to "contempt" for the public?

Doesn’t matter whose fault it is, it’s contempt for the viewers or readers, if you don’t think so that’s fine.
As for changing his mind after seeing them in the paddock, one was on teletext and one in a paper prior to the race.
You seem to have a lot of opinion, weeks after the event about something which you have little knowledge of.July 18, 2010 at 12:37 #307095

You seem to have a lot of opinion, weeks after the event about something which you have little knowledge of.Sorry if my questioning of your initial post comes across as "opinion": my knowledge of the trivial incident derives entirely from your indignant description of it, and I’m not remotely interested in boring anyone with my own opinions about Francome – assuming I have any!
Forgive my persistence, but you still haven’t answered my question: so (3rd time of asking) why do you call Mr Francome’s change(s) of opinion "contempt for the viewers"?
You assert that it is so very volubly; and so I’m curious as to your reason for damning the man’s probity in such strong terms. Did you back his first choice or something? - AuthorPosts
