If the weather changes and it looks as though it will,Our Joe Mac has bundles of ability but hasn’t always shown it on the racecourse. Reports of remarkable homework prior to a miserable performance in Ireland in the spring were followed by a memorable quote from Richard Fahey, who said: ” He ran like a donkey!”
The Malton trainer fitted cheekpieces at Haydock and the son of Celtic Swing seemed to benefit with a creditable third to Sam Sharp.
The headgear was retained for a step up to ten furlongs in a handicap at Pontefract and although this soft-ground specialist didn’t have ideal conditions, he certainly proved he stays with a fast-finishing unlucky second. The gaps simply didn’t come in time, but he’s handicapped to win, especially when granted give underfoot and at 20/1 in some lists he looks a solid e/w bet.July 6, 2011 at 10:13 #363727sammy!! sssshhhhhhh ffs!!

(edit: might not get in, mind)
July 6, 2011 at 10:43 #363729Was at York when Pekan Star won, he looks very special. Definite group horse in the making.
July 8, 2011 at 22:51 #363953OJM not in as feared
Pekan could be gambled but he had a hold up hence missing ascot and only 1 run this season means he’s lacking experience…zarkava would point out the race he won has been a miserable trial for this race
but for me the main negative is his price is based more on stable and hope than anything else…could hose up but Varian backers got burned with Mijhaar and this looks similarGreen Destiny? Modun looks more a 12f type – 3 "group horses" in this handicap, maybe none are, quite like Sarrsar e/w, tricky race good luck those who play
July 8, 2011 at 23:05 #363957Lol I noticed the race he won hasn’t been a great place for potential John Smith’s winners to run but couldn’t care less about that. I’ll have a saver on Pekan Star but my horse is Modun. I think the world of this fella, but I am concerned about the ground. Is it good ground or on the soft side? Is rain forecast tomorrow? I’ll check everything out before placing my bet.
July 8, 2011 at 23:13 #363958Hi Zark
just re-wrote my thoughts on Purple:
Leaning back towards Green Destiny here
The Biscuit’s claim means he’s only 8lbs higher than his romp fto at HQ. Didn’t like him at Ascot because the general theme was that race he won was "hot"..but to me it was anything but, but he travelled very well and won doing handstands…At Ascot things went West straight away and in the end was inclined to give him kudos for finishing as close as he did in 7th
Pekan’s had an interrupted prep afaik, general consensus says he’s been "laid out" for this as he won fto at the track, but he missed Ascot’s handicap because of a problem so don’t agree there, and wasn’t as impressed as some with his win, looking more of a resolute galloper/stayer than anything, still holds an Ebor entry. Similar applies to Modun who did make Ascot and bombed out, looks 12f material…Sarrsar so so will be prominent but is vulnerable…Beachfire hellish task to win this from a mile back on this track…
Greeny D @ 8/1 e/w gl
backed Modun fto and unfortunately did so again at Ascot

i’m in the northwest and it’s lashing down, york may get some but that shouldn’t worry GD…modun up a stone still bothers me as does the trip, gl if you play

Beachfire
for me.
Improving, quickens, acts on g/s, well drawn and only 1lb worse off with a horse he beat pointless lto. Add to that, his jockey forgoes the July Cup ride on Dream Ahead to pilot him, and the 8/1 looks outstanding.July 9, 2011 at 11:06 #364005MODUN for me ignore his last run he is better than that
July 9, 2011 at 13:16 #364045Willing to take a chance on Merchant of Dubai here. Think the ground, rather than this trip went against him last time. Feel he’s better than the price suggests, I think 33’s BOG is too good to pass up e/w.
