Surely it would be no surprise to anyone if War of Attrition won this. He has won or been placed in almost ever race he has ran in. He seems past the comeback stage having once twice from 2 runs.
He’s obviously enjoying his racing again and he’s done more than any other horse in the race. Off level weights I think he’ll take all the beating in the world.
Noland obviously must go close but he ended up being disappointing last season and I think of the 2 he’s the dodgier bet. He doesn’t come across as the worldbeater PN said he was going to be and he looked his usual self on his return this season…..Once again Ruby found himslf having to push and shove to get him going and that worries me.

…. no suprise to c fof slating our horses once again!!!!!!
December 6, 2008 at 02:11 #194718He said he’d go close but that there are negatives to him – none of which can be disputed at the moment.
He might have come up against a Grade 1 Champion Chaser in the Arkle but at the moment he disappointed as favourite for the race and is up against a Gold Cup winner and an Irish Hennessy winner on Sunday.
Personally of the three I think The Listener is the best bet in this race – has the form and the ground will be right up his street.
Any chance we might see Noland in France at any point Beckster? He has a good turn of foot and the 2m 4-5f races could well be right up his street?
December 6, 2008 at 03:16 #194726i very much dought it stamp but u never know??? thee was slight talk of king george, but they think a year to soon, he seams to be in flying form fitness apparently so hope he comes home safe atleast… preferably a win lol, but yea war could cum back n kickass lol x
December 6, 2008 at 05:55 #194800Noland looked superb last time out. The op seems to have done him the world of good but I’m siding with WOA on this one.
War of Attrition looks back to his very best this year and in his homeland I really fancy him to come up trumps once again.
The race will, in my opinion, show just how good WOA can really be this season. A solid win and the Gold Cup will surely be well and truly in mind

Back to his very best, halfwaytoheaven? I don’t see how a less-than-impressive victory over Carrigeen Kalmia last time even remotely equates to anything he achieved between April 2005 and November 2006.
I am loathed to leave Watson Lake out of calculations, but he’s a horse very much in the Harchibald mould – all the ability in the world but generally unlikely to ever fulfill his potential. He’s also prone to jumping errors which, if memory serves, will knock him out of contention in an instant.
Snowy Morning just doesn’t appeal at the moment, and all bar Noland and The Listener look out of their depth. The latter will, I’m sure, make every effort to lead from the off (Watson Lake doesn’t need to lead and will likely throw a strop if challenged anyway), but I was impressed by how well the Nicholls horse stayed on his reppearance and he just shades it for me.
Noland @ 5/2, with a small saver on The Listener @ 9/2

Slating? I happen to think he has a helluva chance if he doesn’t hit his customery flat spot. I think he’s a dodgy bet but Sam riding him swings it ….If I were you I would stop worrying about me and get yourself down to the bookies and get stuck in……….Sam gets on the buckle end of those reigns and starts throwing his arms about he’ll scare Noland half to death and he’ll take off like a rocket.

I’m championing International Jumping Becks – I have to do my bit (gawd France Galop should be paying me for all this stuff). Would just love to see more British and Irish horses running for the big cash in France
Good Luck tommorow – I’ve jinxed The Listener so you have a better chance
December 6, 2008 at 22:38 #194948thanx stamp think it could be the trvel etc as british based r, horses are not used to the traveling as much i.e the ferry etc takes alot out of them.. compared to our showjumpers 4 example used to hoppin on n of the ferry etc, but i could be wrong also the vreight costs are an arm and a leg lol, but yea it is a shame as there are some lovely tracks over there x

It definitely is – even offering double the prize money of UK/Ireland and offering the accomodation etc. free of charge they don’t seem to be able to get the runners. Personally think our trainers are just running scared – they know they’ll get beat
December 7, 2008 at 04:31 #195016You’d have to be impressed with the way War Of Attrition has jumped and quickened in both his starts since the injury. Yes, the horses he beat at Thurles weren’t up to much, but there was nothing in that run to suggest he’s regressed at all. He’s only a 9yo and he’s still quite lightly raced after all.
He might get turned over tomorrow (he failed to win this race in 05 & 06), but Davy has been effusive in his praise for the horse and his animated reaction to his reappearance at Punchestown, would suggest to me that the horse still possesses a lot of ability. Until it’s proved on the track that War Of Attrition is no longer the horse he once was, I will continue to stay loyal to him.
December 7, 2008 at 05:11 #195020My thoughts exactly Imperial…very well put, WOA for me.
December 7, 2008 at 05:59 #195036The more I look at Nolands stats the more I wonder whether betting on WOA, as planned, is a little too risky.
Noland seems to love going right handed. Most of his blips on his record are on left handed tracks, hardly any blips on right handed and in fact most of his runs right handed have ended in wins. Add that to the impressive Down Royal performance (pretty much like a new, fresh Noland had been born over the close season) and it’s got to be a worry for WOA.
Add that to the fact WOA’s connections have come out and said he will have a hard task tomorrow too…..
Hmmmm….decisions, decisions…..It’s going to be another one of those ‘5mins before the off time’ decisions I think
December 7, 2008 at 15:42 #195099Punchestown abandoned!! – Boring day ahead then.
December 7, 2008 at 17:07 #195122I always forget the rules in these cases- do bookie ante-post bets stand?

My bet stood on Punjabi but I was asked if I wanted to let it ride assoon as Newcastle was abandonded…..back home If a horse race is postponed to another day and overnight declarations stand, then Ante Post bets stand.
