I hope he doesn’t lose his exuberance. His jumping at speed is breathtaking. I’d side with fakir in this race at the prices but gdc for whatever his chelt gtarget is.

Charles Darwin to conquer the World
December 16, 2022 at 17:13 #1627035I’m going to sit this one out, as for all I’d make a case for Fakir D’Oudairies, I just want to see something special from gdc
December 17, 2022 at 22:08 #1627185Seven declared and Galopin Des Champs would be conceding 7lb and more if this was a Handicap Chase.
He’s generally 1/3 and while he should win comfortably he’s actually only 1/3 just to get round statistically on past Chase form and Fakir D’Oudairies is four out of six at this distance since April last year and that includes three Grade 1s.

Charles Darwin to conquer the World
December 18, 2022 at 10:33 #1627214This is why I’ve not had a bet on the Savills – he’s still in it.
They need to race tomorrow and he needs to show up for it before I’ll consider a Savills bet on anything else.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 18, 2022 at 11:22 #1627223The forecast looks good for today and tomorrow
I’d still have them favouring the Tramore race over the Savills, purely as a first time out race not wanting it as brutal as the Savills can beCharles Darwin to conquer the World
December 18, 2022 at 11:31 #1627226You’re probably right, but I’m going to wait until he’s run tomorrow (he might fall at the first – what then?) before touching that Savills market.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 18, 2022 at 11:59 #1627228If he falls at the first and is still A1 then he’ll go Tramore
although I’m usually wrong so he’ll probably end up in the Savills..
Hopefully this goes ahead, Fakir D’Oudairies is a pretty good yardstickCharles Darwin to conquer the World
December 18, 2022 at 12:01 #1627229It’s an interesting race despite the betting.

“I think it’s deplorable that I have to run him here. Look at the calendar and tell me where else I could have run him? There’s been nothing since October. Horses like him are continually ignored by the calendar in Ireland. I was going to run him in the Hilly Way at Cork but the ground wasn’t great, so I chose not to, and the ground wasn’t right in the Fortria Chase at Navan, but again, they’re both Grade 2s. There aren’t enough options for a horse like him.”Channelling Nicky Henderson
He forgot about the Poplar Square and the Clonmel Oils but I suppose the ground wasn’t right then either. Maybe there should be some special races “for horses that won a chase in France as a youngster but didn’t run over fences after that then spent a year hurdling but the ground has to be just so and the races aren’t allowed to have any other good horses in them”…or maybe connections should stop whinging.December 19, 2022 at 13:49 #1627405It’s a no bet race for me but I’m interested to see how Haut en Couleurs jumps- the wrong way round for him today but I think he is better than he has shown so far so will be watching with a view to the future.
If Fury Road jumps round nicely and manages to drop his mark finishing at a respectful distance I’ll be watching him closely in big handicap chases over 3+ miles especially on spring ground.
December 19, 2022 at 13:59 #1627409Trainers of anything half decent want races on a plate where their horse can school round for easy prize money at odds on.
Anything else and they’re bleating like Chezza when he realises the biscuit tin is empty.
I’m getting a bit excited about this race now – given Galopin Des Champs only got a 75% completion rate over fences so far and it’s first run outside novice company, isn’t Fakir a bit of value at circa 7.6 “on the machine?”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 19, 2022 at 14:05 #1627410I realise gdc has this on a plate but he had Cheltenham on a plate too.
Willie normally packs this with his runners so must be confident going with just two.
