For anyone interested John Dunlop stages his Open Day this Sunday.
The yard is open from 10 until 1pm
The stable is easy to find. Once you get to Arundel look for the Castle.
The stables are set in the grounds of the Castle.

I’m not going this year, but can thouroughly recommend it. Unlike many yards, Mr Dunlop allows you to touch the horses and even step inside the horse’s stable now and again. Although beware, these are racehorses not pets. Some BITE!

    Just got back.

Fantastic day yet again, got talking to one of the workers there in the fillies yard who was fascinating to listen too and exceptional with the public!, one of his interesting stories in relation to a question asked "Do horses ever sit down" he mentioned that in the 1987 storm every horse in the yard was sitting down! something he’s never seen before.

    Anyway, the horse I would take from the day would be;

Alraased (Tall, strong sort, could be anything, hopeful of a good one here)
Balady (Leggy, sizable filly, expected to be a stayer)
Aazif (Good moving, powerful sort, expect to be a stayer)

I doubt Dunlop would get too many Aussie admirers there! Whilst Mark Johnston and Luca Cumani agreed Cummings had a point regarding British racing,(he is right regarding prizemoney which is atrocious and probably very close to the money on if the Sheik took his horses then racing would be in real trouble, though i think bart is smart enough to know there are some class horses in Britain) Dunlop said ‘I would simply say that Bart is an Australian’! Yes he is John, but he didn’t denigrate a whole country of people and Cummings has forgotten more then you will ever learn.

Get a sense of humour mate!

How many years have Australians been calling us English "Prisoners Of Mother England" (Pomes)?

Australians have been criticising us pomes for generations, with stupid generalisations. Which is what John Dunlop may well be trying to point out in his own deadpan way. ie Australians (Bart) love to criticise the English. How much do you know about John Dunlop? Have you ever met him? Do you know his deadpan humour Bungarra?

"Denigrate a whole country". Don’t make me laugh!
You must be looking for something to criticise, my Aussie freind, just like John Dunlop intimated.

Racial slurs are NEVER humourous Chiswikian, on that we can all agree.

I am defending him because it WAS NOT a racial slur.

Not "Pathetic" at all Chiswickian. Anyone who calls what John Dunlop actually said a "racial slur" is dumbing down all actual racial slurs.

For John Dunlop to call Bart "Australian", should be seen in the same light as Australians calling us "Whinging Poms". He was NOT saying Australians are any worse than any other human being.

Are Australians saying they are "better" than us by describing us as "whinging Poms"? I don’t think so.

    Stop whinging!

LOL. Pretty hard to defend the indefensible. You’re doing a bad job of it too. What did you think of Alan Lee’s article that reported the comments?

Australians are renowned for their forthright views, competitive nature and no nonsense attitude, perhaps that’s what he meant?

Cummings comments could have been interpreted as all of those things.

    Agreed Aragorn. :D

Sadly the way the comment was reported in the Times by Alan Lee it definitely came across as a racial slur. If it was unintended as a slur Lee conveyed that poorly. It was uncalled for in a thinking man’s world.

No "ifs, just "he IS a …."

Thankful you now say it might be "the way the comment was reported in the Times by Alan Lee", and now say it "

    came across

    as a racial slur".

You should read what John Dunlop actually said and make your own mind up from the facts.

Talk about "slurs", what have you done to Mr. Dunlop?

How would you like being called a racist Chiswickian?

Can I suggest you delete the offending posts and I will delete mine.

    Thank you

    Mark
