I remember reading something about this a few months ago.

Apparently they are made from a different material and are warmer than the standard breeches.

there are hundreds of rides across many meetings today yet only one person wears black breeches

i was thinking maybe he messed up the others and only had one pair and nobody would lend him any

i haven’t noticed them in the other races so maybe he just wore them for that one race ?

It’s right behind the weighing room in most cases.

My guess is….. about none of you…..black? not required jocks have ladies tights on….Yes Ladies Tights…………someone tells me Francome still wearing them

well, nobody’s answered why he was wearing black breeches, but we have helpfully been told jockeys wear womens tights while using the on-course drug dealer, except john francome who wears them all the time

Seen some jockey wearing black at kempton few weeks ago and wonderred what they were. Quite strange

That was probably the same jockey Paul Doe who has been wearing them quite a bit on the AWT as well as today.

I think jockeys wear tights for warmth and also to help when riding so the riding breeches dont rub up against the hairs on their legs to cause any friction.

In a similar vain swimmers shave off most or nearly all of their body hair when racing so the water cuts much more smoothly when in action

As Paul mentioned, some jockeys think they are warmer than the traditional white
