the rider of rebellious spirit, just now in the 3.30 – is this allowed, why would someone do this ?
March 24, 2008 at 15:43 #153559I remember reading something about this a few months ago.
Apparently they are made from a different material and are warmer than the standard breeches.
March 24, 2008 at 16:09 #153562surely not – is this the jockeys-blouse equivalent of footballers wearing gloves ?
there are hundreds of rides across many meetings today yet only one person wears black breeches
i was thinking maybe he messed up the others and only had one pair and nobody would lend him any
i haven’t noticed them in the other races so maybe he just wore them for that one race ?
things like this upset the apple cart
March 24, 2008 at 17:32 #153566How many of you guys ever been in the jockeys changing room?
It’s right behind the weighing room in most cases.
My guess is….. about none of you…..black? not required jocks have ladies tights on….Yes Ladies Tights…………someone tells me Francome still wearing them
March 24, 2008 at 17:42 #153568What were you doing in the jockeys changing room Fist?
Did you used to be the on course drug dealer
March 24, 2008 at 17:56 #153571If only mate
Was funny though seeing something the public never see………..enough secrets for one day mate can’t be telling these guys too much
March 24, 2008 at 18:05 #153574well, nobody’s answered why he was wearing black breeches, but we have helpfully been told jockeys wear womens tights while using the on-course drug dealer, except john francome who wears them all the time
why was he wearing black breeches and why was he the only one today ?
March 24, 2008 at 18:30 #153576Perhaps brown breeches would be useful on some occasions?
Brown, the new black?
March 24, 2008 at 18:35 #153577I would imagine he’s wearing them because he’ll be paid for doing it.
March 24, 2008 at 18:37 #153578maybe he is in mourning
March 24, 2008 at 18:38 #153579maybe he has not washed them for a few weeks
March 24, 2008 at 18:43 #153580He won didn’t he…..perhaps they are made from the same material that those swimmers use?!

March 24, 2008 at 19:46 #153587Seen some jockey wearing black at kempton few weeks ago and wonderred what they were. Quite strange
March 24, 2008 at 19:58 #153588That was probably the same jockey Paul Doe who has been wearing them quite a bit on the AWT as well as today.
March 24, 2008 at 19:58 #153589At the end of the day does it matter?
March 24, 2008 at 20:23 #153594I think jockeys wear tights for warmth and also to help when riding so the riding breeches dont rub up against the hairs on their legs to cause any friction.
In a similar vain swimmers shave off most or nearly all of their body hair when racing so the water cuts much more smoothly when in action
