There are no such things as ‘form boosts’ with regards to the festival in my opinion. Some horses are trained especially for March and the form book goes completely out the window.
February 19, 2012 at 17:57 #39248490% of horses are trained with a view to getting them to the festival in A1 condition. Not sure how there can be no such thing as a form boost in relation to Cheltenham.A form boost is a form boost, simple as that. With Solix ahead of Invictus last time out, I’d much rather see him come out and run well.
February 21, 2012 at 04:27 #392724For Non Stop;
"I doubt if he’ll get three miles, but he’ll be a good two-and-a-half-mile handicapper. He’s a Paddy Power Gold Cup type of horse. He’ll go for the Jewson Novices’ Chase, but each race takes a lot out of him so it’s marginal whether he’ll recover in time. He’s won one race before for us in his life – he’s been an unlucky horse up to today."

Jonjo once said they have to be 110% fit just to run at the festival and getting them there can be a nightmare.
I agree with Boz about form boosts and form lines they very seldom work out at Cheltenham
Form lines lie it’s that simple. If they didn’t who could have ever forsee Hurricane Fly winning a Champion Hurdle based on his runs against Solwhit who had beat him then run him to a neck but was thrashed 18 lengths by Binocular?
Take a horse like Zarkandar he beat Unacompanied and she went on to beat Thousand Stars but her trainer said he wouldn’t wast his time going for the CH. Boost or not? Hardly if we take her last run at face value.
Zarkandar beat Kumbashwar just over 1 length 3-4 weeks later Grandouet beat the same horse 8 lengths. That one will of course work out
Good policy is to forget what they are beating forget any recent poor performances and look at the horse itself and what he is capable of, then delete the if’s and back him cos sure as hell he’ll run a blinder if he turns up.

There’s not a chance that was Solwhit’s true running, but agree form lines can lie.
February 23, 2012 at 17:21 #393221Champion Court’s been entered in the Byrne. Surely means connections unsure whether he has enough talent to win this.
February 23, 2012 at 23:00 #393294Wouldn’t have thought so as he clearly has.
Could just be a safety net with conditions.February 23, 2012 at 23:46 #393303Money continues to pour in for Sir Des Champs..

Strange how my confidence in him has never been as low as it is right now. Don’t ask why, I’m going through that with every single horse I’ve backed this festival
February 25, 2012 at 22:20 #393643Duke of Lucca beaten 13 lengths by Cristal Bonus today.
Beaten 12 lengths by Solix in November.

Know what you mean, Grandouet, Quito De La Roque and Fingal Bay. Punted this at 14s, 12s and 10s. So will probably get rerouted ro RSA

take confidence from WPMs quotes re Quevega. "If you’ve got a favourites chance at Chelt-in-ham why go for another race thats harder to win".
February 27, 2012 at 02:34 #393826A very surprising (for some) and low RPR for Cristal Bonus, although I’m not surprised purely because of the form between him, Solix & Duke of Lucca. Solix had been rated 151 for beating Duke of Lucca by 12 lengths (has since run to 156). And for beating Duke of Lucca by 13 lengths, Cristal Bonus has been awarded a RPR of…152.
If there is 1 market the bookies have got arse about tit, it’s the Jewson Novices’ Chase market.
March 1, 2012 at 17:20 #394343I’m sure anyone with any ante-post bets going for this must be looking at Peddlers Cross right now like he’s the new kid at school; no one really wants him here and he should go back to where he came from!

I think he should take a good hiding if he does turn up. In the best possible taste of course

This made me smile, but from what I hear there’s a good chance the new kid may actually turn up at school on Thursday!

Hope his Parents put him on the wrong Bus !
After all the bluff and bluster from McCain in recent interviews, it looks like he’s got cold feet. Do like him as a trainer, but really think he should stick to his guns. Yes, they may have got beat, but then avoid SS next season and go Ryanair route.
