If i were Nicholls, i’d aim Silviniaco Conti at this – looks ideal for him.
Also, if i had a nice horse just turned 6 or 7 then i’d aim them at this instead of the RSA, which can be a cruel test for many a progressive animal.
January 14, 2012 at 16:36 #386871Wouldn’t want Silviniaco Conti for any race at Cheltenham – as far as I can see his best form is on right handed sharp tracks.

His best form is indeed right-handed but his win at Chepstow giving a good beating to Captain Chris with Frascati Park miles behind in third looks pretty decent form.

2 lengths behind RSA favourite and Gold Cup contender Grand Crus is losing the plot ?!!
January 14, 2012 at 22:12 #386913If you don’t think Grands Crus’ performance was as impressive as everybody else thinks so, then yes, it is.
Since beating Captain Chris by 10 lengths over hurdles at Chepstow, he bolted up against a field of slowcoaches at Ascot, was then soundly beaten by a couple of horses who have been thoroughly exposed now as mediocre, then 4th of 5 beaten 24 lengths against a couple of decent horses, beaten yet again by Cue Card, only had to beat 1 other horse to win at Wincanton the other month and the other day he beat a horse with just 1 previous chase outing who was off the bridle after about 1 of the 3 miles.
On the last of the starts from the first half of his career, he beat the Arkle winner by 10 lengths.
On 2 of his next 3 outings he was beaten by the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle 4th.
Dodgy attitude and I’d hate to own him. He actually reminds me a fair bit of Silverburn.
January 14, 2012 at 22:23 #386915Just look at the standard of horse Nicholls has run in the Feltham recently. Strong Flow obviously we can’t possibly say. He looked extremely good but who knows actually how good he was. Won’t even begin to use his post-injury performances to say that’s how good he was.
Patches, Bold Fire, Silverburn, Breedsbreeze and Tchico Polos. These are not world beaters. He doesn’t run his best chasers in it.
Just get on Solix before the money really starts piling on. Still 12s now, should be 6/1F.
January 14, 2012 at 22:28 #386916Valley Henry, Shotgun Willy, Juyush. The list goes on.
January 15, 2012 at 12:59 #386970As I started ticking off the likely non runners in search of the likely winner I found myself skipping round S Conti time and time again and ignoring him.
I wouldn’t trust 2 Thai Baht on him in a 2 horse race . No doubt he’ll win someday and I’ll have backed something to beat him but Cheltenham? not even PN is that good.

It may well go on but posting lists is no proof whatsoever that SC has lost the plot.
" I’d hate to own him "
Yes, winning half his races since arriving in the country, the £137,000 in prize money….would be a right nightmare.
Poppycock.
January 15, 2012 at 19:00 #386992Well if you think I meant by my statement that I’d have hated to own him after he bolted up in the Ascot Hurdle, ok.
I’ve have loved to have owned Delegator after his run in the Craven. Would’ve been tearing my hair out after the St. James’ Palace.
January 16, 2012 at 00:01 #387025Champion Court @ 14/1 ; thoughts?
January 16, 2012 at 00:54 #387027Will he be able to dominate a bigger field? Will he be able to beat Solix off levels? Will he be able to beat Solix again after it took Solix half the Dipper to learn how to jump properly with surely more progression to come from Solix? Will he go for the Jewson or the RSA?
January 16, 2012 at 02:49 #387034Solix is a classy horse but I’m troubled by his jumping, especially around Cheltenham. The course could well find him out once again. I would much rather back Champion Court e/w as I think he’s a sound bet, just don’t see him as the winner.
I’m really hoping Sir Des Champs shows up as I think he’s a potentially brilliant animal that could find this race within his grasp, if Willie and Gigginstown put him in this one.
I’d have the Sir Des Champs(Jewson) and First Lieutenant(RSA) double at this stage.
It’s all on you Mr O’Leary………….
January 16, 2012 at 04:23 #387040Boz, watch the Dipper. Watch Solix’s jumping. About halfway through the race everything just comes together and he wings the remainder whilst looking confident and tidy. That was his first proper test over fences and just needed a few tries before he got it right.
January 17, 2012 at 22:41 #387201Agreed (as unlikely as it sounds) with Zarkava, that Solix’s jumping was actually very good in the jumper, just got out battled by the tough Champion Court. Solix should have gained a lot of confidence from the run, as will Barry. He was put up in the Post two weeks ago as a lively outsider too.
January 18, 2012 at 00:03 #387213Won’t go too far with regards to knocking Solix’s chances, as I afore mentioned, I believe him to be a very classy animal. If he runs to FULL potential, Zarks you may be right and if he wins you have him at a very nice price.
I’d just say he’s best watched for now, and am personally more taken with Sir Des Champs
