Yep; that’s exactly what I was thinking but am too hungover to type.
June 26, 2022 at 11:34 #1604322Some just cannot see past how they themselves see Racing.

I’d have thought we’d made it abundantly and repeatedly clear that we can.
Do you and your all-too-often potty-mouthed sidekick even read and comprehend what others write, GT?
Racing is a sport which has become embarrassed about what it is – an industry which commercially breeds animals and races them for prize money and so spectators can bet on the outcome.
Racing and the career general marketeers it employs see no neat fit for racing in the modern world of recreational and leisure and so are rebranding and repackaging it as something else.
However, what it now sells itself as is available elsewhere at often significantly lower cost.
You don’t have to pay racecourse prices to dress up and have alfresco food and drink and listen to music.
There’s an elite equine/human sport going on and there’s the opportunity to feel engaged by it by having a flutter on the outcome.
That’s the USP, yet that’s never the focus in the marketing of the sport.
It’s like advertising a trip to the World Cup without mentioning the football and selling it as yet another (albeit more expensive) foreign holiday opportunity instead.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 26, 2022 at 12:06 #1604328They have almost certainly carried out market research. The idea that the approach is just some marketing persons whim is nonsense. You do not pay for that.
And tough if the market research didn’t give the right answers. That’s not what it is about
Strong sense that opportunity to bet came a long way down list of reasons to go racing.
Ging is right.
June 26, 2022 at 12:13 #1604329I think the lack of likes is very telling
Even if the followers were not interested in going it doesn’t take much to hit the like button in support of this “popular celeb”
If Jurgen Klopp was advertising nail varnish. A high majority of male Liverpool fans wouldn’t be interested in the product but the majority of those would still hit the like button
The video had over 3,500 views when I posted the social stuff up.
You telling me the low likes doesn’t mean anything? Think you are in dreamland ginge.
Nobody likes it
People don’t need adverts telling them horse racing events can have food, dress up or down etc. Its the most popular sport for a neutral person to go to anyway. Everybody knows it exists. They either chose to like it or not. Needing an advert like the one for this is insultingBlackbeard to conquer the World
June 26, 2022 at 12:37 #1604335Looking at the way the rest of racing is run, I find the notion that this campaign will have been professionally conceived rather, well, I won’t say “naive” as that would be patronising, condescending and generally demeaning, instead I’ll say I find the notion rather “quaint.”
Yes, that’s a better, kinder, word.
Just.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 26, 2022 at 12:40 #1604337This is what racing has to bear in mind. There is a very powerful and vocal anti-gambling lobby nowadays.
I do not want to belittle the issue but this article has picked up two extreme examples and portrayed them as more commonplace than they are. I find it very difficult to believe that one person a day is committing suicide because of gambling.
The article ignores the fact that the overwhelming majority of punters gamble safely and responsibly, just as the overwhelming majority of people who drink alcohol are not alcoholics. But I suppose that does not make a good headline.
I had a doctor’s appointment last week. The surgery took the opportunity to update their records. I was asked if I smoke or drank alcohol (which I expected). However, I was a little surprised when I was asked “Have you bet more than you can afford to lose recently?”
Who is going to answer yes?
June 26, 2022 at 13:00 #1604342The bha is not going to screw up the marketing “like everything else” because like nearly all bodies of their size, they do not run their own marketing
It’s outsourced to competitive tenders with pitching a big element in this game

Value Is EverythingJuly 2, 2022 at 18:27 #1605065The distinction between his followers and people who simply identify positively with him is probably a fine one, tbf.
Still, he will be well used to terrace jeers of: “what a waste of money!”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 2, 2022 at 18:37 #1605069There were about 7,000 people at Leicester today where the highlights were Hollie Doyle riding the winner of a seller and a favourite owned by the Queen just about landing the odds in a maiden.
It was a Ladies Day and there is a concert after racing. That is why there is a crowd there.
How many of the crowd are there because they saw the Jenas video? Somewhere in the region of zero?
People who do not follow racing every day were already happy to go racing. The Jenas video serves no purpose and is a huge waste of money.

100% agree.

I was kinda wondering that myself.
