Wtf was that? First he disappears for about ten minutes, then he jumps like the least talented NH horse in training. That was disgraceful towards the punters and the paying public who came to Sandown to see him run.
I didn’t mind the outcome since I left him out of my forecast combinations, but yet another unusual display from a Henderson horse. I wonder what has happened to the horse, not only during but also before the race. To keep the public uninformed is also pretty poor.

Some information regarding the delay before the race would certainly have been most welcome. At least NJH gave a very open and honest interview after the race.

Just forgot to mention the drift from 2/11 to 8/11 and the PU with no real chance after jumping the 2nd.

What did Hendo say? I don’t have RacingTV. They should have let the race off without him,not fair on the other novice chasers to make them plod round for ages at the start, unless JDR was getting reshod but I think the presenters said that wasn’t the case.

GAG, NJH basically said that the horse went ballistic when being saddled up, which is totally unlike him.

He then explained that the horse was checked over by the vet before being allowed to leave the saddling area and again at the start. Nico was perfectly happy with the horse, but Jeriko ballooned the first open ditch (something Nicky reminded us Altior used to do at that same fence) and then was getting back into his rhythm when he slid going into the last of the railway fences.

Nico then decided to pull up as a precaution and the horse seemed fine after the race, although he will obviously be checked over when he gets home.

I think it’s disgusting that the broadcasters didn’t know the situation several minutes after post time and can’t inform the public until after the race

    It’s 2024 FFS.

Thanks. Thought the PU was fair enough, when he skied the second fence I thought sheesh he will have frightened himself or hurt himself doing that, and he wasn’t jumping well after.

I imagine Henderson was dreading an interrogation by Anthony Dunkley. ;-)

I wonder who was laying a 2/11 chance overnight at 4/5?

I don’t suppose anyone on RTV or at the BHA will ask.

I’d like to know who laid him on the exchanges, for how much and when the drift was initiated. It would be helpful to know why the horse was frightened in the pre-parade ring and if maybe there was a bad schooling session in the built-up to the race. The way he jumped some fences, especially the 2nd one (I think it was the first ditch), revealed some serious confidence issues when approaching an obstacle.
Of course Nicky played it down by telling us Altior did the same thing to that fence. Complete BS…..

The lack of updates is inexcusable in this day and age – the other jockeys were looking around as if to say, ‘Where the **** is Nico’ – 10 mins with no updates was poor as you would of thought that an official of some kind should have investigated as to where in the dickens the horse was when the others were all at the start.

The second fence wasn’t an actual mistake as such as he didn’t touch it but he ballooned it (which many horses do regardless of their level of experience) and he landed in a bit of a heap on the other side – he may have frightened himself a bit as he took a while to warm to his jumping but he was getting better until sliding going into the last railway fence and it was wise to call it a day after that. A complete and no doubt frustrating non event from their perspective and if the horse gets the all clear they may want to look to getting him out again sooner rather than later.

As an aside he wasn’t the only horse sliding before an obstacle as Anno Power (who won the 1:40 race) did the same thing at the last as she went to shorten up and it almost cost her the race – there was also a couple of cases at Naas as well (again it looked to be horses shortening up to the obstacle), maybe the drier ground with watering on top of it is making the surface a little greasy.

    Stewards report:

“The performance of Jeriko Du Reponet, which started favourite and was pulled up was considered.

Nicky Henderson’s explanation that the gelding had got upset whilst being saddled and had made a bad jumping error was noted.

The Veterinary Officer examined Jeriko Du Reponet and had nothing to report.”

That’s it. That is all the BHA has to say about a 2/11 favourite drifting like the Kon Tiki to 8/11 and then running like a drain.

And they wonder why betting on racing is falling through the floor.

I wonder whether the drift was as a direct result of nobody knowing where the bugger was in the lead up to off time and the almost 10 mins after the off time when he did eventually show up

I’ve not seen the race but Henderson said for a horse that normally has a wonderful temperament it was like trying to break a lion so why did they run him? We have had all this jive about horse welfare on good ground recently yet they were happy to run this horse who was acting totally out of character.

Henderson really doesn’t help himself , common sense you pull the horse out , if I’d have been one of the other riders at the start I’d have been demanding they start , Jesus h it was over 10 minutes late , RTV a **** show as well , kept saying they didn’t know what was happening , someone must have been in the paddock

Henderson should have pulled him out

However had he done so he would still have been lambasted on here
