Now, that was impressive. Probably the best bumper winner I’ve seen in recent years in a decent race at a decent track. He also seems sooooooooo huge!!!! I wonder if some top owner will pick him up for next season.

Do you think Henderson will run the horse at Punchestown? Hope he does as I was very impressed too.

Don’t know what to make of that, it wasn’t normal.
Jockey had a double handful for most of the race then coming around the bend didn’t look happy, was pushing away a bit, not looking to be making much progress before showing a good burst of speed and then latched back onto the bridle and slowing all momentum that took him there before bursting away again.
He went off joint favourite would like to have seen his odds on betfair in-running.

On the clock it was a decent performance earning a speed figure from me of 88 on going I had at +0.18s/f (fast side of good).

The best time performance for a bumper horse recently was Mr Antolini at Downpatrick on the 20th March earning a speed figure of 99.

That was when he hit that flat spot about 3f out. But you have to consider that it was his first run so improvement should be on the cards. It would be nice to see him at Punchestown and going hurdling next year.

He was green around the bend.
I think you’re right Ruby a bit more experience and he could be something

West Wizard or Altior – difficult to say at this stage. Form looks genuine and I imagine we’ll see him back at Newbury early next winter.

I have noticed that David Bass (one of my least favourite jockeys, I class him as a 7lb penalty) has been given the leg up on Jenkins even though Barry Geraghty who rode him last time is at Kempton and does not have a ride in the race.
Maybe Henderson and others see something in Bass that I miss, but even without my thoughts on him it still seems a little odd that he gets the leg up.

Looked like he needed four miles today; surely that run can’t be a true reflection of his ability?

On a side note, how poor were the post-race comments about Elgin hitting the right notes or similar? Don’t tell me that the brains trust at RUK got Elgin confused with Elgar….

Elgin is Nigle (a variant of Nigel) spelt backwards!

I opposed Jenkins today because: first Bumper run, LH, won, 9L, impressive, RPR 128. Second Bumper run, RH, up in class, 24 days later, 2nd, RPR 125. First Hurdles run, LH, won 5L, pushed out, RPR 131. Today’s run, RH, up in class, 31 days later…

Today’s run was obviously far worse than the second Bumper run (which was a fair effort) and there may be more to it than needing to be very fresh, being better left-handed and not doing as well as expected up in class but it’s food for thought.
