I heard Yves St Martin has been keeping a vigil by his telephone.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Maybe she should give that Jockey who rode a superb race on Ruler of the World a go.

September 14, 2014 at 18:55 #490267sorry to digress, but mention of the Saint-Martin name always brings to mind the last encounter of Eric with the HKJC stewards.
having already announced he would be quitting riding for good in HK, Eric had become a bit de-mob happy.
at one of the end-season cards he finished riding early and – in breach of HKJC rules – immediately went home to his apartment.
no sooner had he left than his presence was required at a stewards’ enquiry.
this then had to be delayed for two hours (meaning placings and dividends stayed unconfirmed) until he was traced and eventually showed-up:- in flip-flops, T-shirt, shorts and irritated by the inconvenience.
asked why he had left the track before the meeting had ended, he explained that he had to decant a bottle of wine to allow it to breathe ahead of his evening meal.
asked why someone else could not have done this for him, he replied :
“ ah like to ‘ear ze pop of ze cork myself.”

Brilliant story, we should start a separate thread on great stories regarding jockeys and trainers.

Sounds like he’d have been a natural in Allo Allo.
I am trying to visualise Ryan Moore uttering those same words in front of the Stewards. It’s not happening for me.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
