Very sad to see Janidil’s name on the latest HRI list kindly posted by Ekbalco, and thought he was sufficiently high profile to have his own thread.
That Leopardstown meeting at Christmas has ended up being a real shocker, and it is also shameful that a horse of Janidil’s stature has passed with such little comment.
He won 6 of his 30 races, including a Grade 1 novice chase, and £347k for connections. A sad end to such a fine career.
RIP Janidil
January 2, 2025 at 19:28 #1717356I was just about to post this having noticed on the HRI List dated 02.01.25. I was surprised he hadn’t been put up here before but if this is not brought to the public attention then how can we know.
RIP Janidil.
January 2, 2025 at 19:32 #1717358Homer, where I say it’s shameful, I’m referring to the racing authorities and the racing media. It happens time and again that the death and retirement of high profile horses goes unremarked. Sadly Janidil appears to be little more than a footnote.
January 2, 2025 at 20:06 #1717359Thanks for opening this post for Janidil Marlingford, he certainly deserves his own thread. I was saddened to see him name in the HRI list. Seems he fell in the same race that Lucid Dreams was lost in. What a dreadful day, 4 horses lost.
RIP JanidilJanuary 2, 2025 at 21:34 #1717365Distressing news. To be honest, I just wrote a long post about Janidil’s career. I watched most of it over and over when writing my Grand National Preview last year. But I don’t want to upset TRFers so decided not to post it. I’ll just say that imo Janidil’s death was avoidable.
RIP big fella.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 2, 2025 at 21:39 #1717367Mark, your opinion is truly valued on this forum. Don’t be afraid to upset people, just share your thoughts. Would be interesting to read them….
RIP Janidil
January 2, 2025 at 21:52 #1717368I agree that sharing your thoughts is a positive thing GT as I know they will have been considered carefully.
If they are likely to upset people or provoke debate, then it may be worth bearing in mind that some posters are likely to prefer that they are expressed elsewhere than the Memorials section.
January 2, 2025 at 21:58 #1717370Very fair comment, Marlingford.

I’ll leave what I have to say to another part of the forum if I do post it.
