Izzi Off? Izzi ****! Hilarious scenes in the 1st at Donny on Friday. Good job he wasn’t trained by an Irishman…
"The massive eyecatcher was Izzie Top, a stablemate of the winner and very much the second string. She was ridden out the back early on, but really caughtthe eye making ground effortlessly around 2f out, where her rider met some trouble. She was hardly fully extended to get closer thereafter, but continually made up ground towards the finish and would´ve surely made a winning debut under more vigorous handling (rider never went for the whip). She has a choice pedigree, should be suited by stepping up to 1m2f next year and looks a surefire winner of a maiden before going onto better things."

Unex Dali of John Gosden’s was given a deceptively ineffective ride behind stablemate and well-backed favourite Utley at Yarmouth recently, and wasn’t he (Gosden) also involved in a similarly controversial finish a few years ago? Perhaps at Redcar or Pontefract?

A maiden long on quantity but short on quality. The winning time was not that far off a second quicker than the claimer.
The money that came for the reappearing VENERABLE ultimately proved spot on, and the noises that some observers were making about the lack of effort made on the winner´s stablemate, runner-up Shavansky, need to be viewed in the context of far worse examples of æafter you, no after you´, that routinely go unpunished by stewards elsewhere.
Having said that, there´s no doubt thewinner was given a visually harder ride than the runner-up, whose rider didn´t go for his stick. Shavansky obviously has the potential to win a maiden, and he´ll get a handicap mark regardless of what he achieves next time.
October 23, 2010 at 10:20 #324012No questions were asked about the Doncaster race. I am fast coming round to thinking that racing in this country is totally screwed.

That’s the one, Glenn; I knew it was a left-handed track but couldn’t for the life of me remember which.
October 23, 2010 at 12:05 #324039A look at the ride given to the third wouldn’t go amiss either.
