Another thing that gets me annoyed is big race days good races such as novice hurdles race one or two are never shown. Even with Cheltenham not every race is shown. It’s more important to show an episode of the Simpson’s or something instead. So show a full card on big race days. If your going to preview a race do it well beforehand and try get through all horses rather than just the favourites. Forget about the meaningless updates from the betting ring. It serves no purpose
January 4, 2016 at 13:32 #1228386I’d go for…
Sean Boyce and Robert Cooper in the studio
Gary O’Brien and Lydia Hislop on the track
Alex Hammond, who can do whatever she likes. If they wanted a presenter who wasn’t in the
horsey mould, Jeff Sterling would a very safe
pair of hands, but I don’t see him leaving
SKYSimon Holt for commentary.
100% defo not Bob Cooper. He mumbles his way through broadcasts more than any person I’ve ever seen on TV.
January 4, 2016 at 13:35 #1228387So in summary, no Luck, Balding, Hoiles, Holt, Scott, Chapman, McCririck, Boyce, Fitzgerald, Stevenson, Big Mac, uncle Tom Cobley and all. No old farts, no new farts. No trainers, jockeys, owners, bookmakers, valets, feed merchants, wheeltappers or shunters. No betting analysis, tips, interviews, old race replays, new race replays, ring reporters, paddock watchers, punters, pundits, feed merchants or trampolinists. And absolutely no posh people, plebby people, mockneys, spivs, Lutherans, poofs, lezzers or swingers.
I think I’ll just watch the snooker.

January 4, 2016 at 14:50 #1228393First item on the agenda for the ITV planning meeting – are we producing a sports program or a betting program? Decide which it is and then design a show built around that option. Almost all existing coverage fails because it has never decided which route to take, and the same could be said of much racing journalism.

I hear what you say KSS, I think it’s quite endearing. I like
listening to him and I like his views on things. I think he is
a really smart guy with a lot of character and most certainly
isn’t your average try to please, everybody type of interviewer.I think a team need to have different characters, and there would
be a place for him in mine, but I accept he is not going to be
everybody’s cup of tea.As you didn’t have a go at the other 4, then I make that 4 out
of five that you didn’t object to……..4 out of 5 aint bad
January 4, 2016 at 16:42 #1228398Robert Cooper is excellent. Bit of class about him, and a nice sense of humour
January 4, 2016 at 17:53 #1228405I quite like C4’s lineup =P but if i could only save three of them it would be McGrath, Cunningham and Luck. The first two are good judges and generally speaking tip decent types. I quite like Nick Lucks presenting style and would like to see him keep his position.
If he doesn’t go into training and when the time comes I’d love to see Andrew Thornton take to broadcasting. Extremely knowledgeable, speaks well and isn’t void of character. I reckon he’d be a pretty good addition to any racing team…
Oh and Mattie Batchelor too. He’s brill =D

I’m just watching the rather piss-poor darts provided by the BDO and BBC; how I do enjoy this annual first-week-in-January jamboree. No public schoolboys within a 10 mile radius of Lakeside; real men, who if they aren’t, really should be wheeltappers, shunters and feed merchants; definitely no poofs, lezzers or trampolinists; swingers everywhere; and given the volume of lager consumed, plenty of new farts
Do you remember Cliff Lazarenko? Famously described as a a kerb-layer from Farnborough
January 4, 2016 at 18:01 #1228409If people don’t like posh people presenting the racing I don’t seem to recall too many complaints about Sir Peter.

haha :) I have no problems with your other choices. Gary O’Brien is excellent but he specialises in the irish racing.
Matt chapman would be my no1, build a team around him. I am currently watching on the line on ATR and the man is absolutely brilliant. Interesting, funny, passionate all in the right mix as well as not sitting on the fence and gives his own view.January 4, 2016 at 20:44 #1228428Think we are blessed with some excellent presenters and pundits.
Clare Balding, Lydia Hislop, Nick Luck – Anchormen/women.
Steve Mellish, Graham Cunningham, Jamie Lynch, Jonathon Neesom – Pundits
Sir Anthony McCoy, Frankie Dettori (once retired) – Jockey Insight
Rishi Persad, Luke Harvey, Gina Harding – Roving Reporters
Sean Boyce, Matt Chapman – Betting
Whoever is on duty – Commentator
Emma Spencer, Hayley Turner – Mud Wrestling
Value Is EverythingJanuary 4, 2016 at 20:46 #1228429O’Sullevan was beyond posh – he was God. =D

Worryingly, I think you are being serious but if they ever want some help reducing viewing figures to zero expect a knock on the door.
By the way I think you mean Lynch, but Steer would probably be more entertaining, and a good deal less irritating.
January 4, 2016 at 21:21 #1228434If people don’t like posh people presenting the racing I don’t seem to recall too many complaints about Sir Peter.
I think the best example was Lord Oaksey. Different gravy.

I was reading this thread at work earlier on today and thought that when I got home this evening I would throw a darkhorse in there that nobody had mentioned and then I see you beat me to it!
Remember him from the radio 5 cheltenham festival coverage last year and thought he came across brilliantly and instantly thought he had a future career in the media! If he gets his finger out and gets those winners he needs to bring up the thousand the timing may be perfect…
Maybe an opportunity for another recently out of the saddle Hayley Turner? Bit of eye candy, is current and only recently retired, don’t know if she’s up to anything else but could be a good shout?
Important I think to strike the right balance of a few old pro’s and a few fresh faces, although having said all that winning an audience and maintaining it will be incredibly difficult in current times with so many able to watch on phones, ipads etc…
The next generation are not like the last in wanting to put a few bets on covering all the tele races and sit back and watching them all for the afternoon….be tough for ITV I reckon but good luck to them!
January 4, 2016 at 22:29 #1228445He seems to get on really well with John Inverdale when they report on the Festival together.
January 4, 2016 at 22:30 #1228446…and I have to, yet again, leap to the defence of Nick Luck who I really like.
