*takes a deep breath*
May I suggest one reads Dan Hodges article in ‘that vile papers’ Sunday edition.
Because if it’s accurate Starmer & Labour have lied, lied and lied again while acting ‘holier than thou’
good luck to allMay 11, 2022 at 18:45 #1597656Could you just give me a précis if it please? About the lies that is. Internet it one of the papers that often has a total lie on it’s front page?
May 11, 2022 at 19:37 #1597659There was no “modicum of principle” in Starmer’s decision, it came far too late for that to be the case.
Held on for so long trying to find a way out and simply no other option after his criticism of Johnson not resigning it would’ve been political suicide had he not done so. Fact still remains though… At the time Starmer started calling for Johnson to go it was before the police even got involved, let alone fined him.
He’d also end up being asked whether he’s resigning in every interview (possibly for months) until the police report comes out. He’d already cancelled one press conference because of it.
Just to correct one thing – If Starmer resigns it won’t necessarily mean Angela Raynor will resign too. I took her statement to mean she will only resign if she herself is fined.
Value Is EverythingMay 11, 2022 at 19:53 #1597661As it is – if there has to be another lockdown – many will choose not to comply with the new rules because of how politicians have acted.
If there is an amnesty for the last lockdown then that will make future lockdown compliance even worse.
tbh Most Lockdown rules were pretty easy to understand.
Important to remember they were there to help keep people safe.If needed again then yes tweak them, but no amnesty.
Value Is EverythingMay 11, 2022 at 20:05 #1597664Lockdown is a completely discredited policy, Ginger. Even the WHO (in effect) admits it now.
Some of us tried to tell you at the time.
May 11, 2022 at 20:06 #1597665Labour may have made a rod for their own back.
Plenty of time for many other MPs and Shadow cabinet to be found in breach of the rules.
Losing your job for possibly inadvertently breaking a rule is harsh.Value Is EverythingMay 11, 2022 at 20:23 #1597667‘if it’s accurate’
If. So presumably he hasn’t provided any evidence. When he starts doing some journalism, maybe I’ll read his output.
May 12, 2022 at 12:14 #1597695Richard,
I posted in that way because as we all know journalists ‘don’t name their source’ and allow people to judge for themselves how valid they believe it to be.
What’s more I think it’s unfair to cast dispositions for reporting the information imparted to him by his contact. As a reputable journalist one has to have trust you don’t shoot the messenger because you don’t like what he’s saying!

Couldn’t agree more about lockdown,I too was a lone voice in the wilderness.
good luck to allMay 12, 2022 at 12:40 #1597697Now Professor John Edmunds of the Sage committee , one of the most prominent and vocal lockdown supporters, has admitted that the modelling which persuaded the government to lock down was flawed, given far too much emphasis and attention and it also failed to take into account the economic impact and the effect on public health.
Well thank you very much, Captain Obvious. Nice of you to finally realise after over two years.
May 12, 2022 at 12:52 #1597699It shouldnt be allowed to be forgotten or passed over. These “experts” ruined plenty of lives through their zealoutry. this has to be revisted and examined and made answerable.
For me it was telling when Sage literally flipped when the south african genuine experts (but wrong colour, female and accents that werent oxbridge) stated precisely what we have since discovered to be 100% accurate. Whitty called them liars in all but name
The WHO report is very telling too. All those that screamed joyfuilly that the “uk was worst in the world” have been slapped down emphatically
I was never against certain restrictions but a lot of it was completely ott.
For all Boris’s many faults he faced down the Sage clowns earlier this year and was proved right
May 12, 2022 at 13:28 #1597704Good of the WHO to acknowledge the indirect deaths too. Bloke I knew started out mildly ill, yes he was no spring chicken but he’d still be here if he’d been able to get a relatively simple operation. As it is, covid backlogs stopped that happening, condition gradually worsened and he’s gone. Dread to think how many times that has been repeated.
May 13, 2022 at 22:08 #1597878Even the “New Statesman” is struggling to get enthusiastic about Starmer:
May 14, 2022 at 10:13 #159798350 more covid fines confirmed on Thursday yet silence from the Tory apologists, still squealing like pigs over one as yet unconfirmed incident involving Labour. Says it all.
June 8, 2022 at 14:11 #1601244As stated many times, as a moderate Labour voter I don’t mind Keir Starmer, even if I do think he is boring, holier-than-thou, condescending, patronising and everything these pinko careerists with a social conscience as their sole redeeming quality appear to be.
But I don’t think he was particularly effective at PMQs today – he should have made more of the fact that 148 of those sat opposite him evidently agreed with him on something.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 8, 2022 at 15:10 #1601258I did not see it but I have just read a report where every political pundit agrees he missed a wide open goal today.
PMQs suits Johnson more than Starmer. It requires a performance. Starmer is too serious and clearly uncomfortable making jokes. He does not seem to be able to think up a response.
Having said that, I think PMQs is mainly of interest to the Westminster Bubble, so maybe not too much should be read into it.
June 8, 2022 at 17:17 #1601273Just watched PMQs. All I can say about Starmer’s performance is it made me think of this:
June 8, 2022 at 17:49 #1601278Blackford’s “it’s only a flesh wound” (the arm had been hacked off) Monty Python Black Knight jibe, if horribly dated, was better then anything Starmer could come up with.
