I must admit that Homes Under The Hammer is so much better since the addition of Dion Dublin. I can only imagine viewing figures have shot up.

That today’s Sunday Forum panel on ATR will be all white.

Geez….heard it all, now so should there be a LGBT guest on just for diversity ?, 2017 and it’s not getting any better.

Name some? the only two black people in uk/ire racing i know of is Sean Levey and Kenneth Pettersen on williamhill Radio..

If you can’t name more than two eligible presenters, I suggest you do a bit more research. What about the owners, trainers, jockeys, stable staff and bookies’ reps who are either female or from ethnic minorities?

ATR could even do something truly revolutionary and invite a punter onto the show- not necessarily female or BAME every week, I hasten to add- to introduce a wider range of views.

LD73, your point about presenters being contracted to other channels doesn’t prevent the likes of Fitzgerald and Harvey from appearing on both ITV and ATR. Surely it can be negotiated?

Assuming it could be but then they were already contracted to ATR before ITV so maybe a special deal was done for that – I am not sure if there is a no compete clause in contracts stopping any RUK presenter from working on an ATR program and vice versa.

Gladiateur Why start this when you can back up your own theory Calling ATR racist and apparently sexist and you cant name any Ethnic Majority in English and Irish racing… Racist/Sexism has no place in today’s society. Simple

I’m regularly twitchy about discussions about diversity but never moreso than when pro-diversity remarks seem to be confined to whether or not black people are involved in whatever the subject matter is.

What about other ethic groups? Chinese? Asians? Greeks? Arabs? Other groups don’t get mentioned and it leaves me feeling very patronised.

As for the Sunday Forum I’m afraid the combination of Muscat(rarely says anything of interest) and Berry ( worthy but dull) were enough to have me switching over despite the attempt to add interest by having the two of them hosted by Chapman.

If you want interesting views and strong, perhaps controversial, opinions, they need people on who do not earn a living in a journalistic capacity from the sport.

I heard there is a coloured, female, dwarf on next week. Her gender is described as bi/homo/curious. Wheelchair-bound and blind, she is still managing to tip more winners than me. The downside is her Tourette’s syndrome and thick Scottish accent (in no particular order) but she can surely allay fears of stereo typical white guests wek after week, as long as viewers can tolerate the outbursts of “Gan, ya f***in’ dancer”

    ps She has ginger hair.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

… and I get equally unsettled by obvious cheap and unfunny posts like this (above) that use outdated and unaware terms like ‘coloured’ but more importantly bundle their idea of minorities all together in a way that screams ‘subconscious sense of superiority’ in a bid to ridicule what they see as ‘political correctness gone mad’ by lashing out and trying to offend as many people as possible in what they see as a ‘ so obviously a parody I couldn’t possibly be seen as offensive’ way as possible.

Bringing the need for ‘diversity’ into every little thing is clearly silly but at the other end of the scale missing the point and giving bigotry a nod is more worrying.

One way to solve this. Get rid of the most of the talking heads altogether. They offer sfa anyway. “Nicky Henderson is a genius”, “JP is a great man, great for racing” or so and so is “a shrewd trainer”. (funny enough, that is more or less the comments of one particular man, Mick Fitz , lol)

Just get as much behind the scenes footage of the horses, going into the parade ring, going down to stalls and leave it at that. Most of the experts are rubbish tipsters anyway (actually it helps who to avoid) Get the pre race interviews, many of whom , ya won’t get much from anyway, and be done with it

Whatever happened to notions of being hired based on merit. Lydia Hislop is a prominent member of Racing UK not because she is a woman, but because she bloody knows her stuff and can be quiet entertaining. She is not afraid either to ask the awkward question or give an opinion hence why she ain’t on the terrestrial stations, sadly (call me sexist if ya want, but she is also nice to look at too) Cumani is getting a little bit of stick because of her polished accent and style, yet, has she really said anything idiotic yet? Don’t think so. Spencer use to get a lot of stick and accused of being a clothes horse but she too was pretty damn good at her job.

Balding on the other hand, the best I can remember her for is (a) Never shutting the F up about Frankie at pre and post Arc 2013 as he had been jocked off Treve and was injured anyway. She talked as if he played a huge role in her win, same in 2014. (b) Her quib to the winning jockey at the Grand National, moments after winning, referring to the state of his teeth, She’s one to comment about appearances. At least his is fixable. And, my favorite (c) Nearly getting run down by a carriage in the parade ring at the 2013 (or was it 2014?) Arc

I am sure Persad is a decent bloke , he tries hard, but he just is not that knowledgeable, or at least fails to show it. Granted, he has done nothing wrong under his current position at ITV, but he is only there to tick off the minority checklist. That should not be the case

I agree with a few of your points but when specific names start being mentioned it is all about individual opinion. You only have to read the TV threads to see nobody ticks every box. Personally, I see Hislop as little more than a ‘cheerleader’. Without wanting to derail the thread too much perhaps you can give some examples of these ‘awkward questions’ because I can’t think of too many. We all know about the McCoy spat but that is now ancient history. The term ‘boat rocker’ doesn’t exist in the racing media.

Black, Brown, Bay, Chestnut, Roan, Grey, Piebald, Skewbald…I judge not by their colour (hue, shade, tint, tone, tinge, cast, tincture) nor by what they neigh and whinny, but by how they perform

Having said that I do find it outrageous and deeply offensive that there hasn’t been a decent White since the elderly Dessie; and it really is high-time that bigoted breeders introduced some Cremello, Overo, Sabino and Lethal White genes into our gloomy Thoroughbeige population, however bad the offspring might be

Bloody Great! I’m a racing fan, who wants to see the best racing, presented in the best way, with knowledgeable and or informative presenters and guests. Not political correctness! Minorities do get more attention, if they want it an can make use of it. I’m one, female with an odd name (in my country of birth and living) competing and succeeding with my male contemporaries. Taller than Lester, I am. Anyways HQ and the rest of racing world is pretty colourful.

Perhaps it is you who ought to be banned (note the correct spelling) for crimes against the English language.

As for your constant puerile posts in this thread, I don’t need to provide any lists purely for your elucidation.

I really couldn’t give too hoots for a person’s ethnicity , age , sex , their accent or their background ; so long as they’re knowledgeable about the sport , reasonably articulate and mildly entertaining .
