The last ever scheduled broadcast of horse racing (Chepstow)on the BBC abandoned, the first ever scheduled broadcast of racing with C4’s new team (Cheltenham)abandoned.
Clare then has a 2 week break when racing continues unhindered presented by understudy Nick Luck on C4.
Clare due to return to the fold today and the sport is absolutely decimated by abandonments
January 19, 2013 at 08:59 #426820Clare obviously didn’t want to lower herself to appearing on the programme today in view of the inferior all-weather fare due to be offer.
The Sky listings were altered to remove her name to show that she has opted out and that the afternoon programme is due to be presented by Nick Luck. Clare was supposed to be presenting with Nick if Ascot and Haydock had survived.
It will certainly be good news for Clare’s many critics, who will be thanking the snow profusely for keeping her off screen today.
I assume that she has decided that, as she is supposedly contracted for just 40 days on Channel 4, she would rather exchange today for another day later in the year.
Heaven knows, she might even pop up at an extra Saturday that she would not originally have done. Makes sense, I have to say. No point the supposed flagship presenter wasting her time on today’s planned poor offerings.
Nick Luck has helpfully told us this morning that Clare is due to appear at Cheltenham next week, weather permitting, for trials day. Those who want to avoid her will no doubt be suitably grateful for the early warning.
I can’t remember the last time the Morning Line was reduced to 30 minutes. It was still grossly over-manned, though, with Nick Luck, Mick Fitzgerald, Tanya Stevenson and Richard Hoiles (Richard fresh from answering his critics on another forum last night), not to mention Nick Smith, from Ascot.
It niggles me that the Morning Line was still presented from Ascot. In theory, they had plenty of time to switch to Kempton, and get a camera crew or two there, although they would no doubt blame logistics caused by the snow.
Ironically, under the old regime, the Morning Line was always presented from Kempton in these snowy circumstances.
January 19, 2013 at 10:52 #426847Clare Balding will return next week to cover the Cheltenham meeting, and will, along with Sprinter Sacre, bring some much needed gravitas to the proceedings.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
January 19, 2013 at 13:06 #426877Quiet news day when there isn’t much racing…
January 19, 2013 at 13:26 #426880Clare,
Is certainly a busy lass – now presenting "Good Morning Sunday" on BBC Radio 2 replacing Aled Jones.
Regards

"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

Brilliant stuff. I like that. I’m still chuckling now.
January 23, 2013 at 19:49 #427261I am pleased she has joined the C4 team where she can add some knowledge to our sport, rarely does she make form errors unlike many of her fellow pundits.
Glad that big smiley creature married to Neil Graham is seemingly ditched, oh that perpetual phony grin in the morning over breakfast is hopefully a thing of the past.
Apart from her, Emma the fashionista, and posh bollox Alastair Down it seems like the C4 tv folk have it wrapped up nicely.January 23, 2013 at 21:42 #427268Just to prove there’s no such thing as over-exposure and just when some people thought it was safe to switch on the television, there among the soap stars, Ant and Dec, Dermot O’Leary and assorted comedians, up pops Clare Balding at the National Television Awards.
BBC, Channel 4, Radio 2 and now ITV. Good job she’s now officially a national treasure.
January 24, 2013 at 16:05 #427315A national treasure maybe but hopefully it won’t be too long unroll she disappears up her own backside
January 24, 2013 at 19:25 #427333Did they say why Clare appeared on the National Television Awards? She’s turning into Anneka Rice appearing constantly on tv.
January 24, 2013 at 20:09 #427339Well, an anagram of Clare Balding is ‘balanced girl’ … which points to why she can handle so many jobs
January 24, 2013 at 21:17 #427350Did they say why Clare appeared on the National Television Awards?
She was there just before a lengthy sequence about the Olympics and seemed to be waxing lyrical about it for ages.
Only caught if for about 30 seconds while my girlfriend was, predictably, flicking backwards and forwards waiting for the categories involving soap stars.
I suppose that was fair enough as she is now officially the face of the Olympics and the Paralympics, it would seem. No doubt she was seen as the perfect person to introduce a section about the TV coverage of it.
January 24, 2013 at 21:21 #427352Surprised the NTAs weren’t snowed off
