Am a fan of Order Of St George, but Dartmouth’s best form isn’t that far behind the short priced fav and has a particularly good record on a soft surface and this trip is probably ideal for the Queen’s horse. A race with a short priced favourite and four rank outsiders makes this a good each way race.
Taken 7/1 each way Dartmouth

Twilight payment e/w @ 40sSeptember 10, 2017 at 13:51 #1317163I agree about Dartmouth,I would prefer a non Coolmore jockey on him. Will it be in Seamie’s long term interest to come and do the favourite?

If you go to back a certainty always buy a return ticket.

I had the same bet with Bet365 who are doing 1/4 of the odds. He may well find the fav too hot but this seems to me to be Dartmouth’s ideal trip and ground conditions. I’d be disappointed should he not prove good enough to finish in the frame.

I’ve also played 25/1 each way Mount Moriah. Three year olds have a hefty weight for age pull and MM only 4 1/2 lengths behind Crystal Ocean at Goodwood over what was probably an inadequate 1m4f. Proven on soft and stable in really good form… Prominent racer and if anything gets a positional advantage over the fav (remember the Gold Cup and this race last year) it’s likely to be a prominent runner. Also had a small saver on likely pace setter Lord Yeats @ 64/1.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 10, 2017 at 15:05 #1317178I’ve done Dartmouth win only here.
I had him first time out this year at quite generous odds and was disappointed with him at Royal Ascot. I still recall him flooring Highland Reel when I had 11/1 on the O’Brien colt the previous year.
Order Of St George has never been lucky for me and I have not backed him in a long time. I just felt Dartmouth was a better bet to a smaller stake, just for an interest.
ps Also did Bateel at Chantilly. Journey has been feeble so far this year, so I had to oppose her at 7/2 and take Bateel at 9/2.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 10, 2017 at 15:39 #1317185Wicklow Brave is the only one in here with form on heavy ground, as it apparently is today. I had him to win at 18.00, and I’ve also laid Order of St George to place at 1.11.

Well done on Bateel! What drew you to her?
September 10, 2017 at 16:42 #1317209Couple of late EWs on Wicklow Brave at 16s and Western Hymn at 25s.
September 10, 2017 at 17:10 #1317217What was The Heff doing on Dartmouth holding him up like that? Horses like to be ridden how they’re usually ridden – Dartmouth seemed to sulk out the back. Got a good break and expected Heff to either track pace or at least no further back than mid-div when racing at this trip. Made little difference to me in the end – with 25/1 Mount Moriah placing and nothing would’ve beaten OOSG but would’ve liked Dartmouth to have got a better ride.

Pocket talk
It’s hard to believe Heff would ride the horse other than how he was instructed. It looked like a clear case to me of the race coming to soon after a hard race at York, something I thought likely to happen. They’re are not machines Gingertipster.September 10, 2017 at 19:07 #1317244What was The Heff doing on Dartmouth holding him up like that? They’re are not machines Gingertipster.I Can’t see why connections would instruct Heffernan to do something the horse hadn’t done since his handicapping days (and has improved since when racing nearer the pace than he was today). Which was why I asked the question. What was The Heff doing? Of course it is just about possible he was acting under orders, but even if that were the case the question still remains. Why change tactics?
I backed Dartmouth @ 7/1 ew, Yeats; but I also backed Mount Moriah @ 25/1 each way. I’ve already said OOSG put up such a performance today that he would’ve won whatever Dartmouth did today. ie Given OOSG’s performance best I could’ve expected was for Dartmouth is a place… And had he been placed then Mount Moriah would NOT have been placed 3rd. In fact my pocket would’ve been no better off!
Nice try.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 10, 2017 at 21:46 #1317257That was a hawk wing performance today. Same as two years ago but even more impressive as he was coasting the last furlong. Makes you wonder why he wasn’t ridden like that before as he had it won 3 furlongs out. Maybe Aiden has set him up for arc/ Melbourne cup but if it comes up soft in the arc and gets a decent draw and ride from the jockey I can’t see him not going very close and that includes enable. Could be that the horse just has off days but I think he has got such a huge engine that he will win a big one sooner or later.

Thanks. I felt Bateel had improved for joining Francis Graffard from David Simcock. She also goes on soft and Journey has looked disappointing this season.
I considered Bateel’s official rating of 103 to be way lower than her actual ability. A group 2 winner improving fast this year being rated only 103 was a bit insulting really. I reckon the handicapper will have to raise her from 103 after winning that group 1 today.
Stayed on well today to beat Journey who herself gave it a good go for a long way.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Well played on Bateel.

Had to laugh at CoS today after we backed him for the PoW! Ran a good race saying that for his first run back.
September 10, 2017 at 23:05 #1317266Cloth Of Stars probably needed that today but it’s hard to see him winning an Arc. The French horses are as poor as I can recall for a long time and their jockeys are getting out-ridden wholesale by our lads time after time.
Good to see you back posting Clints.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
