Poker more likely for Ayr, I think.
Saddlers Storm has a great chance and will almost definitely get in I think. Alpha Ridge looks like he’ll stay all day, 20/1 looks generous and Bluesea Cracker ran well behind Ballytrim at Naas and looks big at 33/1.
Looks more likely with the weather that Notre Pere might be allowed to carry top weight so the weights won’t rise.March 31, 2010 at 08:21 #286646From today’s Racing Post;
"THE Turf Club has announced that parts of the course at Fairyhouse were found to be unfit for racing due to waterlogging when inspected on Wednesday morning.
The situation will be monitored over the coming days prior to the start of the four-day meeting on Sunday, which features the Grade 1 Powers Gold Cup.
The highlight of Monday’s card is the Powers Whiskey Irish Grand National."
March 31, 2010 at 08:31 #286650The day I trust RTE the weather service is the day I ask Sean Fitzpatrick to look after my money. I do recall them saying at the height of the last cold spell wehad saying that the freeze was supposed to last another 10 days. The whole thing had thawed out the very next day. No I’m betting we race at Fairyhouse next Monday.
March 31, 2010 at 12:45 #286710Great drying day today – very windy and sunny
March 31, 2010 at 15:38 #286741Here’s my sentimental choice – Will Jamie Run as he’s the nearest relative to Timbera who won it in 2003 and because I have Timbera’s full brother, rescued when abandoned & close to death a couple of years ago.
April 1, 2010 at 14:23 #286963I’m thinking about Siegemaster for this one. Saw him run very well in Gowran at Thyestes Chase day, finishing very strongly and looking like the step up in trip will be ideal.

is travelling over for the Irish National, as he is only 49 for the Grand National, and they don’t expect to get in. However, the Irish National isn’t run until after the 5 day declarations for the Grand National are announced . . .
April 1, 2010 at 15:50 #286977I have backed Moskova,Stewarts House and Alpha Ridge!!
Any thoughts??
April 1, 2010 at 20:05 #287039i like siegemaster and telenor who seems to go well on soft ground
April 2, 2010 at 14:35 #287173Siegemaster and Operation Houdini are both wearing first-time blinkers.
April 2, 2010 at 14:44 #287177Surely if the ground comes up desperate the higher weights will struggle??
April 2, 2010 at 14:54 #287179Surely if the ground comes up desperate the higher weights will struggle??
Depends if they like that kind of ground, Ray.
Siegemaster goes very well on heavy/soft ground and has been consistent in these big fields all year
April 2, 2010 at 15:12 #287184raymo you’re right they’ll struggle like hell
April 2, 2010 at 16:43 #287201Anyone else like the look of Bob Buckler’s Double Dizzy? Fine at the distance, likes the ground (so did his dam), carrying very low weight (and RP says Nathan Sweeney is riding, so that’s another few pounds off). And he owes me from Cheltenham! Last time Buckler saddled a big outsider at Fairyhouse he won… (this is my first time on this board so please be kind to me if I’m talking rubbish )
April 2, 2010 at 18:03 #287210Blue Sea Cracker is the one I’m leaning towards in this. He has a nice weight and has decent form with Ballytrim, and 33/1 is a very nice price.
April 2, 2010 at 18:23 #287214I am leaning more and more towards Stewarts House which has no weight and has won on heavy AND beat Arbor Supreme last time out. Main minus is it has never ran over further than two miles six!! But I have backed it already and will be going in again come Monday morning!!
And just for the tricast in this nice easy race I have also backe Moskova and Alpha Ridge!!
April 2, 2010 at 23:19 #287260raymo you’re right they’ll struggle like hell
Any particular reason or is this just a statement with no particular evidence?
If a horse prefers heavy ground and is better off in the weights compared to it’s last few runs AND is in first time blinkers then surely it won’t struggle?
I’m not backing Siegemaster but this is surely plain obvious? Just because it’s carrying weight doesn’t mean it won’t win
