A two horse race?
I think Ruler of the The World is most likely winner but perhaps at over 4/1 on exchanges, Libertarian is more value?
Its hard to find much of a case for the rest, perhaps with the exception of the Sugar Boy

June 27, 2013 at 23:00 #24331Who will ride Ruler of the World?
June 28, 2013 at 10:03 #444181There is no mystery – the answer is…
Joseph O’Brien !

They could get Joseph Mengele to ride him for all I care. Its an 8 runner race, an uncomplicated horse and a pretty easy track to ride.
I honestly dont know why people get so upset about these things. He is a perfectly adequate rider if nothing more and its up to connections to decide on these things. No skin off our noses surely.
It does show however that Aiden is very much his own man down there.

Really.. from what I’ve seen his quite lazy and needs a good nudge to keep him going…
he wears cheek pieces for fun then i take it?
All i’m saying is if it isn’t broken why fix it?

Giving a good Nudge is something pretty much any jockey should be able to do. And cheek-pieces are really there to wake up or get a horse to focus. Once seen as bad sign but no longer an indicator of a character.
A difficult proposition in a horse usually consists of one or more of the following…..
that must be covered up,
must come late,
has a tendency to become unbalanced,
cant be struck with a whip,
is easily intimidated (wont go through gaps),
difficult to get switched off.I don’t think Ruler of the World has any of these traits.

June 28, 2013 at 20:48 #444247It will be brave men who back it with J O’Brien up.
I to am surprised that he has taken over for Ryan Moore.
Nepotism.June 28, 2013 at 21:31 #444252Surely it would have been unfair on the
retained stable jockey
if he had not been given the ride on the stable’s only runner in the Irish Derby.

Ryan Moore only rode Ruler Of The World at Epsom because Battle Of Marengo was seen as the #1.

Oh dont get me wrong,….i hope he makes a balls of it. I have backed Libertarian
.Im just saying we shouldn’t be too botherd by this as outsiders. The jockey is adequate at best and is top jockey because of who is he and there are obviously better jockeys in the yard.Nobody can deny that. However all the evidence is that he is a good enough for missions like tomorrow and he shouldn,t make a mess of it.

June 29, 2013 at 00:15 #444274Must admit i can’t find anything to beat the favourite and actually think it should be odds on. Hills 11/10 will do for me!!
June 29, 2013 at 02:17 #444286Ryan Moore only rode Ruler Of The World at Epsom because Battle Of Marengo was seen as the #1.
The truth about
why
who rode which horse at Epsom will
never
be known. In the run up to the race Ruler Of The World never got a mention at all, and the supposed only certain Ballydoyle runners were said to be Battle Of Marengo and Mars.
Come the day of the race they ran five. Fair enough that they went in mob handed if unsure about which one was best but it seemed odd in the aftermath that Aiden said that there were only really two that they thought could win the race and that they were Battle Of Marengo and Ruler Of The World.
Then we were told that Joseph had been thinking about riding Ruler Of The World a week before the race. It seems strange that this was never mentioned to the public in order that they might actually be able to gauge the relative merits of the stable companions. This was then expanded upon by the statement that the final decision about who rode which horse was made on the basis that Joseph knew Battle Of Marengo better and Ryan Moore knew Ruler Of The World better.
Now we are faced with another Derby and they have only put one horse forward into the fray. Do they stick with the jockey who knows the horse better and who has guided him to a Derby success already? No, they haven’t.
Win, lose or draw, that is unprofessional thinking and conjures up the American term "If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it"
Racing should be about employing the best jockey you can afford to put up, and if Joseph O’Brien is better than Ryan Moore I will eat John McCririck’s scabbiest hat with a large portion of humble pie on the side.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 29, 2013 at 07:43 #444299Joseph was again beaten by stable ‘second string’, S. Heffernan up, last night.
June 29, 2013 at 09:53 #444315As much as I would liked to have seen Ryan Moore retain the ride on Ruler of The world, he knows that Joseph O’Brien is Aidan’s first choice jockey, and as such, has first pick.
Although Lester Piggott is most famously associated with Sir Ivor and Nijinsky, it was Vincent O’Brien’s retained jockey, Liam Ward, who rode both those great colts when they raced in Ireland. Although Lester probably didn’t like it, that was the deal.
If anything, The Curragh should suit Ruler Of The World even more so than Epsom, and unless Joseph gets himself or the horse into any sort of a pickle, then surely even he can steer The Derby winner home without too much trouble.

June 29, 2013 at 11:37 #444322Can’t see the problem.
On form, there wasn’t much between Battle Of Merengo and Ruler Of The World before the Derby. Anyone with an eye on the betting market the week before would’ve realised how close the two were; BOM pushed out where as ROTW shortened to much nearer the supposed first string. It also made sense to put the two jockeys on the horses they knew.
For today, Ruler Of The World has by far the best chance of two Coolmore representitives. Joseph is the retained jockey, so it is completely right for him to ride Ruler Of The World. Particularly with Ryan being Sir Michael Stoute’s jockey and riding at Newmarket.
