AOB has pitched in a quartet here, and it looks like Happily is the most likely of his
and gets the nod from Ryan Moore. It might have been a different story if Clemmie hadn’t
had an interrupted preperation, and O’Brien looks to be suggesting that this is a sighter
for Royal Ascot. I had a big treble running on to Soliloquy in the 1000 Guineas,
but it was a strange race, and Buick spent half the race trying to restrain her. Why he chose
to do that is best known to him, and it cost me dear. I hope he lets her have her head here,
as he did in the Nell Gwyn, and if he does I think that form is good enough to take this. I
think the 7/1, that’s still on offer, is far too big so I’ve had some of that
May 27, 2018 at 16:22 #1355202Well done Simon Rowlands. A masterful tip on Alpha Centauri at 33/1 for the Irish 1000 Guineas.
Most people will know she was my first selection for the Newmarket Guineas but that it all went tits up in the Moyglare on soft ground. After that race, Jessie Harrington said the filly hated soft ground. So what happens next? They run her on atrocious ground in the trial and she finishes tailed off.
Sadly I saw little to try her again and the obvious thing happens.
Happily was disappointing there and Who’s Steph was beaten a long way out. It seemed an open secret that Clemmie was not ready and the strong pace was always going to make it tricky for her anyway. Maybe they were trying to take Happily’s stamina into it but that was hardly crying Oaks today.
Well done to Simon Rowlands again. Top stuff there.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 27, 2018 at 16:35 #1355203Top tipping by Simon, the ground made all the difference and she looked
very decent
May 27, 2018 at 17:20 #1355210There was a 17 and 3/4 lengths turnaround between Whose Steph and Alpha Centauri today.
Jessica Harrington’s filly ran to 76 on RPR’s last time and earned 114 today. That’s 38 lbs different.
It’s fairly difficult for punters when a horse finds 2 stones 10 pounds improvement in six weeks.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 27, 2018 at 18:10 #1355215Damn it !
No wonder Lancaster Bomber has never won a Group 1. It’s because they have been running him over the wrong trip and been laying him out for a big punt.

Up to 1.3 million prize money now.
May 27, 2018 at 18:53 #1355217I was on Alpha Centauri just like you Steve for the Newmarket one (at huge odds) and now comes here and wins… well, life’s like that sometimes. Happy for her and Jessica Harrington though
May 27, 2018 at 21:58 #1355228She weighs as much as a colt and doesn’t like heavy ground, the improvement from her prep to today is logical when you look at her form last season on nice ground.
RPRs don’t spell out what will happen Steve, especially on the flat when these horses step forward stones.
May 28, 2018 at 16:33 #1355265RPRs are only a guide but I think that it’s dubious running a horse on bad ground again, after stating that the horse hated it previously. I didn’t back Alpha Centauri in the trial but anyone who did had no chance of collecting with the filly undercooked and just out for a bit of blatant training in public.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 28, 2018 at 16:52 #1355267Why’s it dubious? The form book (as well as the trainer repeatedly as you say) tells you she doesn’t like soft ground. That’s not training in public, she was put into the race and given every chance.
I thought she done it well yesterday, Coronation stakes on quick ground I’d be with her to follow up.
May 28, 2018 at 18:18 #1355272How can she have had every chance when she was running on ground that she clearly hates?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 28, 2018 at 18:35 #1355273Fair point but, if you want to explore training in public, I give you…Clemmie
May 28, 2018 at 22:12 #1355282How do people think Clemmie will do next time out?
She has had more problems than Alpha Centauri and was also coming in unproven at the trip. It was difficult for me to see too much promise there and with September having trouble seeing a racecourse again it makes me wonder.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 29, 2018 at 00:10 #1355284Clemmie’s 2yo form appears to have got worse, but the performances on the clock seems to stack up – her Cheveley Park win earned a 118 timefigure and Timeform Rating. She was given a very considerate ride and could easily bounce back for Royal Ascot; there’s still plenty of time for her to come good.
May 29, 2018 at 09:43 #1355288I don’t think we’re any the wiser after that run. No more than a day out for her. Still could be anything. I’ll be interested to see where she goes next, and how she runs, but I won’t be backing her (or anything else in that race)
May 29, 2018 at 10:29 #1355293Steve, she was given every chance as in ridden in the race rather than a non-trier. Her form shows she doesn’t like the ground, it’s not exactly a secret.
Everything is bad with a race unless it’s a winner you’ve picked it seems.
May 30, 2018 at 13:37 #1355382On Clemmie, did nobody listen to AOBs comments the week before? He said he’d be happy if she finished fourth or fifth (not sure exact quote) so when you are saying “blatant training in public” blah blah, take not of his comments- the horse ran he reappearance in a G1 and missed previous races- clearly she will have needed the run!?
Also, Steve, you didn’t see much promise there, a lot of O’Brien’s improve drastically for a run, a bit like US Navy Flag.. they can run like a drain and come on a lot for it.Twitter: Jackh1092
Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!May 30, 2018 at 15:23 #1355386That’s why I was asking for other people’s opinions.
I didn’t back Clemmie and actually felt she might not run.
The Racing Post had her running 18 lbs below her best but I feel she still has a bit to prove. The trainer said he’d be happy with 4th or 5th, so was 9th a disappointment to him?
I am just saying that I would not back her next time based on what I saw, I can’t talk for anyone else but maybe they saw enough to go in next time.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
