Here we are then – the final standings. After three months of battling, initially for a place in the line up after a three week pre-season training camp, the contestants have reached the end of a long hard season and we have the final League standings.
The inaugural intherefirst.com Tipping Premiership Champion is Roland, who had the title sewn up some time back. After suffering his only defeat of the campaign last week (a match which saw him select no fewer than four runners-up, the racing equivalent of hitting the cross-bar) Roland bounced back to form and, fittingly, posted the day’s highest score and also the day’s joint longest priced winner, Therealbandit. No doubt about it, Roland was a worthy champion and a very well deserved recipient of both the intherefirst.com Tipping Premiership trophy and the 60 pounds  first prize.
Runner up in the Premiership, taking home twenty pounds in the process, is Kevin. Kevin enjoyed an indifferent start to the season and at the end of week 4 looked more likely to be in relegation trouble than vying for the title. He really got into top gear in the second half of the season however and managed to remain unbeaten for the remaining five matches.
In third place, Grey Desire was another for whom the initial few weeks of the league proved troublesome but, again, a late rally saw him scale the table but in the end it wasn’t quite enough to get him into the money.
Things were tight at the other end of the league and in a remarkable match between the bottom two, where victory for either Bob Rolf or Alderbrook would have saved them from the drop, neither managed a winner and both only took a point apiece, consigning each of them to a plunge down into the Championship next season.
A dramatic final week in the Championship saw the title claimed by Irsheyez in an unbelievable climax to the tense battle which has been raging in this division over the last few weeks.
Perry held all the aces going into the final set of games, needing only to win his final match against Michael Walsh to ensure he claimed the top prize. Perry must have felt he’d done enough after posting a final week profit but reckoned without the tenacious Michael, who has been in great form over the past few weeks. Michael managed a treble and put paid to both Perry’s title hopes and his promotion place as Perry dropped down into third and out of the prize money.
This left the title between FanciedHorselayer, Xanderkir and Irsheyez, who all went into the final week on the same number of points but with FHL enjoying a healthy advantage on the total points scored measure which would decide the title in the event of a tie. Fanciedhorselayer and Xanderkir went head to head and Kicking King’s victory sealed that match for FHL as Xanderkir failed to score.
All eyes then on Irsheyez, who was up against Arnalade, who failed to show. No matter though, with FHL well clear the title was surely his unless Irsheyez could post his best score of the campaign. FHL must have been disconsolate as he watched Irsheyez select no fewer than 4 winners to cap an amazing final day. What a finish!
At the other end of the table it was disappointment  for Arnalade who finished bottom and, following my defeat at the hands of Anne7, I’m afraid to report that I’ll be joining Arnalade in League One next year. Spare a thought for Adrian who was one of only three players in the division to regsister a cumulative profit over the nine weeks but still somehow managed to finish in the bottom three!
In League One CelticOk needed just to win to secure the title and there were no final day nerves from him as he dispatched an out of form Caravan with the minimum of fuss thanks to a nice double. Jairducochetfan had a walkover against Rory and as a result just edged out Slipperytoad, who must be looking back ruefully over an indifferent start to the season having won six of his last seven but still failing to gain promotion.
Long time pacesetter Kingmonkey must have thought he’d gone out with a win after posting 3 pts profit on the day. No one with a score of that size had lost all season but KM was extremely unlucky in that he came up against  Citygirl, who has been adept at producing the proverbial rabbit out of the hat all season and did so again with the 9/1 Sedgefield winner Chickapeakray. Kingmonkey will no doubt be consoled by the fact that he had the best cumulative profit of any of the thirty players with a very respectable profit of 24 points.
Bottom two in League One, and making way for two newcomers next season, are Ultimate Nightmare and Rory.
If all those in the top two in each division can contact LRM with their postal details she’ll organise the distribution of the prizemoney. Roland, you PM me also and I’ll get a very well deserved wee trophy out to you.
Thanks to everyone who joined in and particularly those who kept playing all season even after their chance of winning had gone, thus ensuring it remained fair and exciting for everyone. Also thanks to LRM for securing sponsorhip and dealing with the prizemoney admin and to our kind sponsors intherefirst.com.
