I notice top racing journalist,Alan Lee, has a go at Channel 4 over the York Ebor Festival rearrangements in today’s Times Online:

I see the Times are advertising their racing archives by way of a report on "Glorious Goodwood" of 1897. Reading the report, you could well imagine a dashing James Sherwood or young, debonair Paul Haigh step out in front of you. It’s another case of Plus ca Change :) Except for the trek up to the downs which is an altogether more salubrious experience today.

I’m sure Paul Haigh will admit to never having been young or debonair!

    Rory,

I spotted the elegant gentleman only once inside the gates of Longchamp circa 1989 (I think it was!) He certainly looked debonair whatever about young!

The course gets a right slating, doesn’t it?

And a two runner race and a walkover didn’t help matters either.
