Greatwood Handicap Hurdle
Moon Dice @ 7/1 (Paddy Power)
€100 e/w
Backed this horse at Galway and I think the similar test here will suit. Doesn’t look the strongest renewal of the Greatwood and Paul Flynn expects there’s a lot of improvement to come in this lad.

Zalantoun @ EVS (Ladbrokes)

Form got a nice boost at Leopardstown last Sunday with his stablemate winning handsomely. Should be well up to winning a Dundalk maiden from a nice draw.

Quel Esprit @ 8/11 (Paddy Power)
€100 win
Really think this horse has a big season ahead of him. Trip is probably a bit short for him but I’m sure Willie will have him fairly forward given his jumping issues last year. He’ll be keen to get a clear round and a confidence booster under his belt before stepping him up in grade.
1:25 Naas
Unaccompanied @ 5/4 (Paddy Power)
€250 win
Should confirm form with Sailors Warn from last season. She had a nice pipe opener on the flat last weekend and the conditions here should suit.
2:35 Cheltenham
Daves Dream @ 10/1 (Paddy Power)
€25 e/w
Very competitive contest as always but a great betting heat with the sponsors paying 5 places. Henderson’s string are in good form and this horse has a great record fresh and could be well handicapped on the best of his form.
4:10 Cheltenham
Restless Harry @ 2/1 (Bet 365)
€50 win
Has the best hurdles form of this field and goes well at the track. Plenty to like about his Wetherby success and should be good enough with a clear round.

November 11, 2011 at 21:34 #377371I know you’re a big fan of Quel Esprit IC, and he was tanking when coming down in the RSA, but I think Saludos could give him a right rattle tomorrow.
I’d be hoping he’ll have come on for the run at Down Royal, and both horses will appreciate the cut in the ground. Quel Esprit has the unknown factor about him, in that he could be anything, but Saludos rarely runs a bad race. I’d still like to get 2/1 on him though, considering he has to give Quel Esprit 4lbs.

Very good bumper horse and looks a weak maiden hurdle. Mullins/Townend in cracking form but their horse in this was very disappointing last year.

Never really warmed much to Saludos THM. He looks a decent handicap/listed class horse but there aren’t many opportunities for those sort of horses in Ireland compared to England where there’s a good 2 mile handicap chase every other weekend.
Quel Esprit has a hell of an engine and will take a bit of beating over fences if they can build his confidence over the obstacles. Should be a nice winners of two somewhere for him now before a crack at one of the bigger races around Christmas time.

Dylan Ross @ 6/4 (Ladbrokes)
€150 win
Hard to look beyond Meade & Carberry at their local track. This horse has always been highly thought of and is essentially a second season novice because he fell at the last (when set to break his maiden) last Christmas. He’s had plenty of schooling and experience which he should put to good use here.
1:50 Limerick
Whatwillwecallher @ EVS (Paddy Power)
€150 win
Progressive in bumpers last year and her running style suggested that this trip will be perfect. Tyner’s horses are running well and this mare could be a shrewd purchase for McManus.
3:30 Cheltenham
Fingal Bay @ 11/10 (Paddy Power)

Plenty to like about his two starts so far. This is obviously tougher but he should take all the beating.

Have outlined my reasoning on the thread in the Big Races section. Can see this race cutting up big time and the only concern is that he starts looking around himself after the last wondering why Solwhit isn’t there!
November 14, 2011 at 17:55 #377865What do you think will be likely targets for Moon Dice IC?
November 14, 2011 at 18:29 #377869Expect he’ll be put away for the spring now. He needs better ground and is unlikely to get it in Ireland anyway for races like the MCR. Maybe races like the Ladbroke at Ascot and the Tote Gold Trophy might come under consideration if he’s kept on the go.
Presume the main target will be either the County Hurdle or maybe even the Coral Cup.
November 14, 2011 at 18:46 #377875Cheers, was thinking county hurdle maybe, tote trophy. Would like to see him in the former though would be ideal for the county hurdle in the march.
What were your thoughts on Steps To Freedom, think he’s been a bit undervalued in general for his win on Friday. That wasn’t a bad field he beat giving weight and given the steady nature of the race once again showed a good ability to quicken with the pace change easily. He’s impressed me a lot so far and only appears to be getting better!
November 15, 2011 at 00:07 #377944He’s a nice horse but I’d be surprised if the Supreme Novices winner ran in that race on Friday. I doubt he’ll be the top Irish novice by the end of the season let alone in the UK too.
Waiting for the likes of Samain, Waaheb and a few more graduates from the p2p field to come out myself before making a judgement on the novices.

Staying Article @ 6/4 (Boylesports)
€200 win
Thought this horse might develop into a Supreme Novices contender this time last year but alas he didn’t see the racecourse again after his maiden win. Now runs for Thomas Barr so he’s clearly still held in high esteem and this race should not take much winning.
