Heard elsewhere that IC is being re-routed to down royal to take on KS to show they aren’t scared of him instead of taking up the expected appointment at haydock for the betfair and the taken on of denman.

This BS story hit a couple of newspapers but anyone with half a brain knows it was only written to draw attention to the rags.

Nigel T has said nothing to even hint the horse would go to Down Royal but is simply giving himslef an alternative by entering him.

He would have to be stone mad to give up the chance of picking up 100K to try and prove what? That if his horse is 100% and Kauto Star isn’t he might beat him. Even if he did chances are he’d just cost the owner 40K.

He’s certainly not going to attempt to take in both races with only 3 weeks between them nor is he going to send him right handed round Down Royal when Haydock could be his for the taking.

Classic case of paper not refusing ink IMO.

He’d be far better suited by Haydock but if the stable(s) really want to see how they stand (both Kauto and Imperial)they’d go to Punchestown for The Daily Star Chase in October and take on An Siorrac and Sizing Europe, now that WOULD be infomative

strange that denman is being aimed at the betfair chase,if he found aintrees mildmay course too sharp then how will he act round haydocks new awful velodrome chase track?

I simply don’t know why Denman is still going for 3 mile chases? He clearly wants more and if anything shouldn’t he be running in more National trials?

An Siorrac is already seven years of age, has only raced three times, is returning from injury and hasn’t proved himself outside of Point-to-Point and Hunter Chase company, and Sizing Europe is yet to run in a competitive event over more than 17 furlongs; why would connections of the Gold Cup winner feel the need to ‘test themselves’ against either?

If Twiston-Davies does send Imperial Commander to Ireland then he’s crazy, but I can’t see it happening with Haydock a penalty kick in Kauto Star’s absence.

I’ve never heard of An Siorrac outside this forum. More information please

AN SIORRAC Long distance winner of two points and a Hunter Chase and said by his trainer, Enda Bolger to be the best horse he’s ever been associated with. Potentially the best horse in Ireland, has barely been out of a canter in his three races and was the most impressive winner of a Hunter Chase I’ve seen since Freddie in 1964, my long term Gold Cup horse and a star of the future so long as he’s fully recovered from his setback of last November, heat in a leg that was apparently caught in time, but in view of the horses immense potential the trainer felt it was best to rest him last season, Enda Bolger well is known for giving his young horses plenty of time to mature. Returns in October (Star Chase) when likely to clash with Sizing Europe

In answer to Armchair Jockey, with the 2009 and 2010 Gold Cup winners both with plenty to prove after their respective latest runs would it not be useful for their stables to get an idea how they stand with "the new kids on the block"?

I see no reason why it would have even crossed their minds, CS.

As things stand, there is no evidence whatsoever that either Kauto Star or Imperial Commander are any less capable than they were twelve months ago. The former absolutely demolished a decent King George field as recently as last December and remains a two-time Gold Cup winner, and the latter adores Cheltenham and is the current staying champion.

Why would connections of either horse feel the need to run against a two-miler yet to prove his stamina over staying trips and a horse returning from injury having won just three races? The form of An Siorrac’s hunter chase romp isn’t even any good.

The up-and-comers chase the established stars, not the other way around.

The last two runs by Kauto Star and Imperial Commander were woeful, I’d say the do have something to prove

Racing Post Ratings on four recent Gold Cup winning horses, and a future one, after their first winning chase, not all won on their chasing debut…….

KICKING KING 145 (Jumped to 150 after second win in chase)
    AN SIORRAC 144
DENMAN 141(Jumped to 161 after second win)
IMPERIAL COMMANDER 124 (Jumped to 134 after second win)
WAR OF ATTRITION 120 (Jumped to 155 after second chase)

These rating don’t suggest that "the form isn’t any good"
