October 19, 2008 at 22:59 #185461I thought he was very, very impressive!!!
October 19, 2008 at 23:43 #185469He jumped brilliantly for a novice, very brave.
Paul Nicholls said he’s been schooling the novices more this year, so it must be paying off.
October 19, 2008 at 23:56 #185472Very promising start & the jump 3 or 4 out was superb
Good luck with him
October 20, 2008 at 00:12 #185473I couldn’t agree more with everyone here. He won with a ton in hand and he impressed with his faultless display of jumping. He seemed to appreciate the good ground. He beat some decent rivals and for his first attempt over fences it was a very progressive display. There was very little doubt as to the winner after the third fence. He made all and never looked like he was ever going to be headed.
They’ve had him entered up at other tracks but have taken him out, they’ve waited for this race and and the right conditions for his debut, their discretion and patience has been rewarded with a very encouraging display.
Whilst the ground is in his favour I can see them taking him to the Open meeting at Cheltenham next month, and if he’s in this sort of form then he’ll take a lot of beating. He won a Grade Two hurdle there last season and can handle the undulations.
I hope John Hales and his daughter Lisa were able to watch! I know, particularly, John gets very nervous before races. One of the never to be forgotten scenes of racing was when Neptune Collonges won his first Irish Gold Cup, John had tears running down his cheeks and very proudly hugged his horse. I think he hid in the gents during Noland’s race at the last Festival. The Hales family are tremendous news for racing. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Nodforms Paula going Novice Chasing as well. I loved the look of him,he looked a chaser in the making, when I saw him hack up at Hexham, when he won his bumper there. Noland after his breathing operation will be a different horse, and Quenzo Pierji should prove more than a useful recruit.
Paul Nicholls has started the season with a bang and the four Novice’s that he’s run up to now in Breedsbreeze, Poquelin, Herecomesthetruth and I’msingingtheblues have all performed with great promise. Poquelin was remarkable yesterday after making that mistake at the water, I thought he’d injured himself, but he was given a masterful ride by Ruby Walsh, and after giving him time to recover, he came from another parish to win as though he’d just joined the race at the last fence!
It looks like a good season is on the cards for all concerned.
October 20, 2008 at 02:21 #185484We were by Mr Hales when Noland came back up the walkway at Cheltenham; all he wanted was for his boy to come home safe and sound; he told us at our Cheltenham preview that the key to I’msingintheblues was fast ground, and kept telling us not to overlook Neptune Collonges in the Gold Cup.
October 21, 2008 at 03:08 #185644I was mightily impressed with I’msingingtheblues yesterday. As was Ruby, judging by his animation after he’d got off ("unbelievable" was the only bit I caught but he doesn’t get excited over nothing). I wouldn’t be in a hurry to take any fancy prices about him for the Arkle, as I think Claisse’s OCD when it comes to watering would scupper any chance of him getting his ground at Cheltenham, but he’ll certainly pay his way on good or faster and might be a nice type for the Maghull.
October 21, 2008 at 04:34 #185653Best chasing debut since Celtic Son imo…..
October 21, 2008 at 13:12 #185661Let’s just hope he doesn’t end up a broken horse trailing round in last place in ordinary Plumpton handicaps as well, then…
