Just curious to see what people think regarding this??
June 15, 2010 at 23:06 #300989Do you want rid of McEvoy by any chance?
Who would it be? Ridiculously, I think most would now think Ahmed Atjebi would get the "number one" job, although he’s not far off already.
Who should it be? Just about anyone else…
June 15, 2010 at 23:38 #300994Mr Fallon!!
June 16, 2010 at 02:45 #301001They should replace Ajtebi with Haykey Turner first!
As for Dettori, when he goes they’ll probably go for someone international like Soumillon.
June 16, 2010 at 04:37 #301003Yeah, I agree with the last post, it would go to
a top international jockey, someone like Soumillon
or Christophe Lemaire. As good as Hayley is, I don’t think they’d even consider
het or for that matter any Brirish or Irish Jockey.June 16, 2010 at 06:03 #301010Ahmed Ajtebi.
A Dubai native, former camel jockey, nephew of Saeed Manana gave the audition of his life on Dubai World Cup night 2009 and in his debut season as Godolphin #2 won the first Breeders’ Cup race for the operation since 2001.
It would be criminal if they didn’t offer the job to him once Frankie moves on.
June 16, 2010 at 06:27 #301014Frankie has a good few years left in him yet but if he continues to progess William Buick could be the ideal candidate when the time comes.
June 16, 2010 at 07:19 #301020Please don’t shorten – I thought you had misspelt the mathematician, Godel.
June 16, 2010 at 07:33 #301022Or … wait for it … wait for it … wait for it … … .. Godot.

June 16, 2010 at 07:51 #301027I’m not just talking about Godolphin, I’m talking about any stable who wants a jockey that, is undoubtedly in my mind, going to be one of the greats of the sport over the next 20 years (barring injuries of course).
I’m talking about a jockey that shines every time he rides, someone that gets his horses running for him, gets them travelling on the bridle, always puts them in the right position and gives them every chance to win. I’m talking about a jockey that, for his age, is incredibly mature and kwoledgable, yet still willing to learn.
I’m talking about a jockey that has beautiful quiet hands, someone that walks the course every day before riding (so I’m told), and a jockey that is just an incredible horseman.
I’m talking of course about David Probert.
But other than that, I’m not a fan

not a big enough name. No chance.

Of course he isn’t, which is a crying shame. I wasn’t suggesting he will get the Godolphin job, far from it, I was suggesting that if they wanted an upcoming jockey who is going to be a star of the future then he’s the man.
But like you say, these big stables (understandably) tend to go for proven jockeys with big reputations. Would love them for once to take a chance on someone like Probert, which is why my hat goes off to Gosden for taking a chance on Buick (in a very similar mould to Probert in terms of talent and potential).

There’s only one name that I’d have and that’s Ryan Moore, you’d have to poach him, but he’s in a different league to anyone mentioned in this thread.
June 16, 2010 at 09:37 #301050Soumillon is a very interesting shout. Class rider and I’m pretty sure he could easily be swayed by the money
June 16, 2010 at 10:10 #301056Maxime Guyon by a mile – best young jockey riding at the moment.
