I really do feel like a mug. All that is missing is the word "Jackass" stencilled onto my forehead. Maybe I am one ………………. for paying my monthly RUK subscription ten days ago when all the omens suggested a lengthy period of unpleasant weather.
In light of the projected curtailment of turf racing for another week at least, would it be too much to ask of RUK to refund our subs, or at least extend some future credit for the virtual non-service we are currently being served.

It is frustrating, yes: but they are at least doing Kempton. I’d be afraid that without subscribers’ support this month they might go bust – a much more scary proposition for me than the loss, say, of Racing Post online.
I don’t feel a mug. I feel that it’s the seasonal luck of the draw. And I’ve no feeling whatsoever that it would represent some sort of Natural Justice to claw back some of my money.
January 12, 2010 at 02:31 #269401Do they not broadcast international races?
January 12, 2010 at 03:53 #269402They sometimes show French racing on blank days, that apart the only International Racing they show would be the Dubai Carnival & The Breeders Cup.

If you are betting in a race surely your bookies the best bet if you are watching. If not RUK is free minutes after the race. If you don’t know the result it certainly isn’t any less enjoyable to watch. I’m a member but that’s because I’m crazier than you….what’s your excuse
January 12, 2010 at 06:25 #269407Admit the sub seems a bit OTT at the mo. Admittedly the weather has been beyond everyones control, but theres only so many times you can repeat Kempton replays from 2 days ago!
There is a distinct lack of imagination for their filler programming. Surely even Cheltenham 2009 replays pall after the 10th repeat! Surely they could show some features, interviews or even a great historic races package (like the time 3 or 4 years ago when they replayed all the Grand Nationals from 1960 onwards).
Cheap filler, but I’d rather watch that then Kempton AW for the 27th time!
BTW my excuse is I hardly go to the pub, so my £20 sub is the equivalent of beer money and I catch up with the replays doing night feeds with my 5 month old son!
January 12, 2010 at 10:16 #269416LOL Katie,
Pinza, respectfully, having Kempton A/W is very poor consolation for me. Honestly, I have no interest in the sandpit and do not even watch it. It was not for the joys of watching Kempton that I signed with RUK way back in the pre-Setanta days. (And anyway, for any fix of A/W that one might need in these times of restricted NH meetings there is ample provision on ATR.)
And I don’t see why it should be incumbent upon subscribers to underwrite RUK’s profits during a time when that channel’s outlay/expenses are substantially reduced. What makes matters worse is that the "shrewdies" have had the foresight to temporarily cancel their subscriptions whilst mugs like me are locked in to a subscription debit that subsidises this loss of income stream.
I would be interested to know the legal basis for this ……………. the legitimacy of a company continuing to take subscription fees for a contracted service that they cannot provide. If I had the wherewithal I would take a test case, and I suspect that the Court might find against the company. But I cannot do so. All that is left to me is fire off a couple of irate emails to Gillingham House ( which I have done), or set up some Facebook group to embarrass the company into doing the "decent thing". I don’t see what else I can do?
January 12, 2010 at 11:07 #269422Sympathies Hoof , its a pain thats for sure , but maybe you should cancel for February , and then reconnect for Cheltenham when they are making special offers for reduced membership fees , and give em a taste of their own medicine

cheers
Ricky
January 12, 2010 at 11:10 #269423Miss Woodford, RUK broadcast on Sky 432 and up till two years ago, they had a second channel purely for US Racing on 433. They showed all the HRTV coverage including Churchill and the Maryland tracks. Good racing. Jeff Siegel and Laffit Pincat Jr usually presented.
For some reason RUK ditched this channel saying there was no market, yet ATR had been running Stateside (using TVG tracks), on 415 for as long as I can remember. There’s definitely a market and if they changed their minds I would resubscribe. Some of the decisions RUK make are beyond my comprehension though.
Agree with the OP: it would annoy me this time of year.
January 12, 2010 at 11:44 #269427I keep banging on about this but why don’t they do more in depth interviews. Nick Luck’s extended sessions are like Timeform essays, I go back to them time and again.
Surely they could manage 1 a month in the off season for each code.
ATR work much harder on overall content imo.
