If one had the foresight, how much could one profit from Sprinter Sacre being pulled up?
Hypothetically.

excuse is irregular heart beat laughable!! why didn’t he dismount Him!
December 27, 2013 at 15:14 #463097Well there we have it. "Instead of ‘whoa!’, it was ‘go!’ which is very unlike him". Phew!
I’m not insinuating any skulduggery of any kind. I mean they wouldn’t have needed to inflate his Champion Chase price because racebets were offering Evens for up to £25 as part of some offer a few months back. Besides, Nicky Henderson is everybody’s favourite toff and toffs don’t need the money. They certainly don’t use nefarious means to increase their wealth.
And like Ollie Bell said, if it was any other horse in any other race, you would be bemused to say the least. But, rightfully so, Nicky Henderson is immune from scrutiny. Which is just as well because the flustered manner in which he stuttered his way through his fallout interview would have looked really dodgy to the uninitiated racing aficionado.
So as I say. Nothing libellous intended. I’m just cheekily asking "what if?" as part of a mere, harmless philosophical endeavour.
December 27, 2013 at 15:24 #463098To be fair there was a lot of pressure on him to run the horse today. I’m getting very wary of the way horses are being billed as superstars especially when something bad can happen. Difficult to pull a horse out of a race when thousands of extra people have turned up just to see him. We went to a bookies to watch the race today and I wasn’t surprised to see him pull up
.
December 27, 2013 at 15:47 #463099Arrythmia reportedly found, as it was with Denman.
NJH, admits that he gets so wound up before SS races – and during the race – that he’d almost rather not run him. Such nervousness must be communicated to B Geraghty, although it looks like he got it spot on.
The horse didn’t travel early with his usual keenness, and BG had him on a fairly loose rein as they turned away from the stands. He threw just one spectacular jump, and was much less exuberant at the other fences.
But I suspect Binocular and Moonlit Path will haunt NJH to his grave
December 27, 2013 at 16:08 #463101So many people scoffed at me when I suggested that something like this would happen. Three miles indeed!
Sprinter Sacre is a giant horse who has already experienced breathing problems – it was just a matter of time until his body felt the strain.
December 27, 2013 at 16:41 #463102Denmans problem was found before he ran, it seems interesting that the horse has had this much work in prep and the problem occurs now. A lot of horses have murmurs and drop beats and irregularities come to nothing, A virus will can very likely cause a heart irregularity, we don’t have to look too far back to see a certain PF Nicholls sell a Grand National winner after it had a similar problem.
December 27, 2013 at 19:21 #463120Hopefully he makes a full recovery.
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
December 27, 2013 at 22:21 #463141I have really bad arrhythmia & I can run for the bus & up flights of stairs, not so sure about a two mile chase though.
December 28, 2013 at 00:22 #463156Well done to Barry Geraghty for taking the action he did on Sprinter Sacre, rather have him fit to run another day than end up like Best Mate.
Maybe it’s time to call it a day, he’s been a wonderful servant.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 28, 2013 at 00:39 #463164To be fair – The Young Fella raised this exact scenario (or close to it) some time ago.
He is a beast to look at (SS not TYF) and reportedly looked awesome (sorry) today. Of the thousands of horses I’ve seen in a paddock he is probably the most imposing I’ve ever encountered. They are precarious animals though, trainers are walking on eggshells with most t-breds, so you never know what is around the corner.
Let’s hope we see him (at his best) again.
December 28, 2013 at 02:26 #463177There are some special horses whoms demise a racing fan ought to not want to profit from. Or a gambler for that matter.

You are the disgrace,
It’s at times like these when i realise too many people who bet don’t care one iota about the welfare of the horse. Twitter was obscene yesterday.
Sad, pathetic people.

What has 3 miles got to do with it ?
Nothing.
December 28, 2013 at 15:26 #463269The assumption that I earn 70k would be a remarkably well placed one if I got my pay in Tajikistani Somoni…

I don’t bet on horses as it spoils the sport for me and my concerns on animal welfare (inside and outside of the sport) often border on the hysterical.
Sprinter Sacre is my favourite horse in training and has been for a few seasons now so my official position is that if something felt a bit off then praise be to Barry Geraghty. Safety of the animal trumps the selfish concerns of the punter a thousand times out of a thousand. Indeed, by that token, I’m happy to heap praise on a 7lb conditional pulling up in a Ludlow seller.
Nevertheless, I finding it increasingly disconcerting that the mere question or suggestion of
any
potential foul play is being sharply, vehemently and rudely dismissed with religious zeal. I get that we all fawn over Nicky Henderson (myself included sometimes) but to be so harshly critical of the "tin foil hat brigade" because "Why would Nicky Henderson pull something so rankly blatant" is to settle a case with literally nothing more than conjecture. In this country of law and due process, neither I, nor a brand new trainer from nowhere for that matter, would be afforded this level of trust and rightfully so. Therefore, why should a personal friend of the reigning monarch be immune from scrutiny?
As was raised earlier in the thread, Moonlit Path and Binocular will follow NJH to the grave and the fact that for all the gallops and schooling sessions undertaken by SS since the summer, the arrhythmia only transpires after a mile around Kempton…
I started this thread as very little more than a cheeky joke. But in light of the almost unanimous reaction of the racing community, the concept of "us and them" threatens to once again rear its ugly rear. I can’t be alone in wondering exactly what harm a quick procedural (a little more substantive than a doping test which would answer zero questions) would do to the character of NJH, the integrity of the sport or the reputation of same.
December 28, 2013 at 16:17 #463270In my opinion – BG thought they had him at it, so pulled up rather than get beaten.
He clearly didn’t think there was anything too dramatic or he would have dismounted.
This heartbeat stuff soon got out didn’t it.
Does a horse have his heart beat checked for ‘regularity’ on a regular basis? Weekly for example? Or after each race? Or only when someone feels there is a problem?

Looked to me like they jumped the 7th last slightly behind SDG. They then found themselves lose a few lengths and after another fence where SS got in tight, Barry had to bump him – something i’ve never seen him do before. No response and he was immediately pulled up. Presumably thought it was a fitness issue etc
