Armaturk is now with the Joe Turner yard and was ridden by James Owen in the Countryside Alliance Club Members race at Higham today.
He went off at 4/6 but was quickly pulled up when in contention before 4 out on rain softened ground. Bob Justice won the race by a distance.
January 26, 2009 at 03:11 #206543Amicelli reappeared with a convincing win in a goodish time at the Albrighton at Bangor PTP today. The abovementioned King Killone was the only one to make a race of it from three out and a couple of fair NW area yardsticks in third and fourth.
Anyone know when Southwestern or Bon Accord are likely to reappear?
January 30, 2009 at 23:49 #207236For those based in the North. Natian is entered in the Open at Friars Haugh, Kelso tomorrow and those entries for Alnwick that Jeremy flagged up still stand – some are in at Friars Haugh as well.
I’ll be at Horseheath tomorrow. I believe Rydal Park has a big future so will see how he gets on if they run him.
January 31, 2009 at 22:04 #207374I understand they’re racing at Alnwick next weekend..slim chance that we may go..who is likely to be running?
January 31, 2009 at 22:28 #207378Moe, they were meant to be running the West Percy meeting at Alnwick tomorrow (Feb 1st) after postponing last week, but it is waterlogged again. They probably won’t try and reschedule the meeting again, as there is another one at Alnwick (College Valley & North Northumberland) on Feb 15th (not next week).
Meanwhile, back on topic, and a "fat as a barrel" Ballycassidy hosed up today in an Open Point in Wales, and Natiain seemingly won easily up at Friars Haugh.

…and that, I’m guessing, on ground a bit softer than he’d like, too.
There’s 28 days or thereabouts left for him to score another Open win if the Bowens want him to qualify for Cheltenham. Quick as you can, Bally – Zome’s travel plans depend on it!
Keeping fingers crossed for North Carlton tomorrow, but if they abandon early enough I’ll re-route to either Fontwell (for the season’s first hunter chase) or Southwell (because it’s there), in that order. Enjoy your racing, y’all.

Cappa Bleu absolutely hacked up in a hot open at Horseheath. Better judges than me (that is most people) reckoned that they might go down the Cheltenham Foxhunters route (not yet qualified, but that is a formality.

Rumor seems to be they’re aim with Bally is to go to Aintree and bypass Cheltenham. So maybe he’ll get his win over the National fences afterall!
Have seen pictures of him from his p2p win yesterday. He really looks tubby, but looked like he was glad to be back racing! And he apparantly also ditched his jockey on the way to post!
February 1, 2009 at 14:36 #207487Bless ‘im, what a star!

February 1, 2009 at 21:11 #207566Can imagine Ballycassidy being suited a lot more to Aintree.
As regards that race i hope Christy Beamish comes back to Haydock in a couple of weeks for the Walrus as that is one of the best trials for the big Hunter Chases.
Annoying that Wetherby could not run the Wilmot Smith yesterday though, surley some discression should have been allowed here as it always kick starts the Hunters
February 2, 2009 at 00:22 #207608Indeed, not sure why the 1 Feb cut-off still remains when:
Ireland gets going much earlier with Hunter Chases at Christmas and possibly before; and
Pointing gets going in December now.
Let’s have a bit of parity for us slow-racing fans!

Yes, I can quite imagine that being the target – it’s a crying shame that recent Wadebridge heart attack victim Cobreces won’t be around to serve it up to Christy Beamish and try to land his third Walrus in four years, though.
Paul Jones’ partner Susan Taylor has taken over the handling of Christy Beamish this term, and the signs from the yard so far are fair – their maidens aren’t up to very much as yet, but the more established animals Bravery Scotch and Mad Victor have already scored victories.

February 2, 2009 at 01:06 #207616Keeping fingers crossed for North Carlton tomorrow,
Good job I remembered to uncross my fingers before stepping out of the car at North Carlton today, otherwise they would have frozen in that shape! It was a real four-seasons-in-a-day afternoon – rain, sleet, blizzards, sun, wind, the lot. But they got through the eight-race card alright without the weather factoring in any extra undue risk to horse or rider.

February 2, 2009 at 17:32 #207706News on the Ballycassidy front from Sportinglife. :
"Ballycassidy is being aimed at Aintree glory once more after a clear success on the weekend.
The 13-year-old faced just three rivals in the Mens Open at the Vale Of Clettwr Point-To-Point at Erw Lon races in Carmarthenshire on Saturday afternoon.
A three-miler in testing ground and strong winds should not have suited the horse, as the best of his form when racing under rules came on a fast surface and usually later in the year, but bravely he fought through this and hit the front with three fences to jump after looking in serious trouble earlier in the race.
The horse, formally trained by Peter Bowen but now in the care of his son Michael, now has a win under his belt this season and connections are targeting better things.
"He was only 70-80% fit today, and he definitely blew-up down the back for the last time but he has stayed on nicely and won well in the end," said Peter Bowen.
"He will now return here (Erw-Lon) again later in the season and will be aimed for the Aintree Foxhunters’ in April.
"He likes Aintree, and in the 2006 Grand National if he hadn’t fallen at Valentines the last time I think he would have definitely been in the money. Donal Devereaux will again take the ride as he gets on well with him and hopefully, the horse will give him a great spin around the big fences!"
Point-To-Point Secretary on Saturday Pat Lewis said, "It is great for Point-racing when a horse like this wins. It is good for the game!"
"Looking good for Bally!
February 6, 2009 at 15:51 #208456I can tell you guys,as the joint owner, that we are definitely targetting Chelt first followed by Aintree. He goes well on both tracks but we will get our other win in hopefully then see you Friday at Cheltenham.

Nice to see your using my colours and my horse as your avatar Mome. Impressed
February 25, 2009 at 16:13 #212273Bally going to Aintree now as missed qualifying for Chelt unfortunately. All my ante posts in the bin.
