Could be talking through my pocket here having backed Magic City without the fave.
But coming up to a furlong out Magic City looked potentially like he could grap second (The winner had easily gone) when Hughes decided to ease the horse off and ended up finishing 4th.
How do they get away with it? If I went to work and decided for the last hour I’d do naff all it would more than likely cost me my job, no doubt he was looking after the horses handicap mark and it will bolt up next time out.

May 22, 2014 at 22:32 #479780I wonder if he’s fully over that nasty fall he had over in Dubai, he injured his back and watching his rides he doesn’t seem to have his butt in the air as high as I previously remember.

May 22, 2014 at 23:27 #479784Have a look at the ride he gave it on seas debut last year. won next time out at 16/1 I remember with fondness.
May 23, 2014 at 01:22 #479791I was talking about exactly this point on course, immediately after the race.
Magic City has been given tender rides on ground he doesn’t like. He’s going to be well handicapped at Royal Ascot or Glorious Goodwood when the going is likely to be in his favour.

May 23, 2014 at 08:33 #479800So you decide what is most important for racing in general? A string of supposedly top jockeys not bothering to ride out for places or the theory that horses might be better handicapped for their subsequent runs because a string of supposedly top jockeys don’t bother to ride out for places?

Eh?? How does anything ever finish 2nd or 3rd then??

May 23, 2014 at 09:29 #479803They have a new training practise out now called the emergency stop, they are applying disc brakes to the horse and the jockey has a brake peddle.
Once the race is won the rest slam on the brakes and whoever skids past the post in 2nd or 3rd get a bollocking off connections.

May 23, 2014 at 15:17 #479836Surely makes place betting a real gamble does it not? Unless you are an owner.
May 23, 2014 at 15:18 #479837Some jockeys in Ireland are seen to whip the mounts of rival jockeys to keep their own mounts out of the frame.
May 23, 2014 at 15:49 #479839I’m sure they do.

I would like to point out that this is absolutely NOT the ravings of a fruity mentalist.
I myself have seen the surreptitious application of genital clamps mid-race to opposing horses by quite literally no end of Irish jockeys. Panorama are investigating as we speak.

May 23, 2014 at 17:59 #479861Joking aside, more and more people are beginning to question the integrity of racing even on TRF, a rather staid institution.
May 23, 2014 at 19:07 #479871Woolfie, don’t be so daft.
Nobody on here is saying the game is squeaky clean, it’s just not riddled with as much skulduggery as you like to make out.Value Is EverythingMay 23, 2014 at 20:43 #479880They have a new training practise out now called the emergency stop, they are applying disc brakes to the horse and the jockey has a brake peddle.

This made me guffawww

seriously though …please folks lets appreciate the artist that is Mister Hughes ….the ride he gave Red Refraction , was class
and reminded me of Lester who could do the same with equal panache
This horsey scratched to post , hated every yard of the going ,when he thought he would be a rogue again , hughes placed his bonce on the line ….a work of art . just genius
Not many Jocks could ever be compared to the long fellow , but in some respects Hughes is getting to that rare spot …miles clear of all other jocks
Enjoy
May 23, 2014 at 21:00 #479883Good post Mr Lake, was very much a class ride on RR.
Richard Hughes at his best is the best jockey on the planet bar Nathan Hughes on G1 Jockey 4.
