Anthony Van Dyck, Ardfert, Cadmium (FR), Dreamzaam, The Gabby Cabby, Time To Study (FR), Village Mystic (FR).
RIP to all.
November 5, 2020 at 21:14 #1509736Another Augustine Leahy trained horse on the list. This time it is an unraced 2-year old called Ardfert. Whatever happened to him, we’ll never know as long as no one likes to answer questions.
May they all rest in peace.
November 8, 2020 at 23:23 #1510150Worrying to hear that name again Ruby.
Shocked to see Time To Study on the HRI list he was a really useful flat horse trained by Ian Williams.
He changed trainers a few months ago to Luke Comer runs one race where he comes 19th of 20 and is now dead..surely Horse Racing Ireland could put a reason why these horses died alongside their names.RIP
All the horses on the listThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 9, 2020 at 00:23 #1510154Yes Jac, thanks for mentioning Luke Comer. The bloke owns a Real Estate Company in Berlin. It belongs to the Comer Group, founded by Luke Comer himself. Two weeks ago he sponsored the 2 mile G2 ‘Oleander Rennen’ (whatever that means) where he was responsible for 5 of the 10 runners in the field. One of them finished 3rd, the other four were tailed off at prices between 50/1 to 200/1 and filled the last four places in the contest. I have no idea where he gets the money from and whether training racehorses is the priority or being the head of a Real Estate Business.
Better not to know that much…. I really have no clue how much people like him care about the horse’s welfare. But you hate to see their horses on these lists more often than in a winners enclosure.November 9, 2020 at 09:13 #1510158This list is certainly highlighting the dark side of racing Ruby. Sad to think we have not heard the last of these dreadful people willing to exploit horses for their own gain.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 9, 2020 at 10:42 #1510166I don’t know about Luke Comer. He tends to buy staying horses- Time to Study was a little different to his usual MO which is to buy Coolmore castoffs. He is a crap trainer, to put it bluntly (I don’t know how much input he actually has, I think his assistant just has to make the best of things) – but is just doing it for fun, like Barry Connell except it looks like Barry Connell can actually train. So I suppose he can spend his money how he likes. I read an interview where he gives the impression that he does really enjoy it. I think he has a touch of the Darren Yates about him ie more money than sense- but both could perhaps be applauded for buying expensive older castoffs rather than always scrambling for the latest fresh new toy.
He does tend to hold onto the horses even when they keep coming down the field so I would think Time to Study’s demise is due to genuine injury or illness rather than culled due to being not good enough as I don’t think he usually does that, at least not after one or rwo runs, he tends to keep bashing his head off the wall for a lot longer. I don’t know what happens to his horses in the end though so absolutely no idea if they usually get lovely new homes/ nice retirement or not.

Also professional bullshitter?
“Highly regarded as a racehorse trainer”
Ummm….November 9, 2020 at 12:04 #1510173I like the other bit about Monaco as well
Luke lived nearby before moving to Monaco in 2004. Why? βItβs a very friendly place,β he says with a twinkle in his eye.
November 9, 2020 at 15:57 #1510208I believe it was Somerset Maugham who described Monaco as “a sunny place for shady people.”
November 10, 2020 at 07:58 #1510251Classic quote CAS.
Reading those articles green does make you wonder why he wants (or needs) a Trainers Licence with all that money, but I suppose the odd 300/1 owner/trained winner helps boost the funds.
