These are all very sad of course, but am particularly sad to see Mortal’s name on here as he’d become a favourite of mine. I knew he’d pulled up lame in the La Touche Cup, but did not know he was a fatality.
It has been a grim few weeks for racehorse losses. RIP to them all.
Incredible to lose three horses over the Punchestown banks. Especially when they had no form over that sort of course and the race is run at a rather sedate pace.
Artic Weather, Mortal, Ballyday Star.
Then Vital Island who won two days earlier was a NR on Saturday due to an injury. I wonder where he got that from.
Mortal was also supposed to run a third time on Saturday, but he was also withdrawn on Saturday. Guess he was already dead after being pulled up twice in the space of three days.
Ballyday Star couldn’t even finish within ten lengths of the winner in Maiden Points.
Surely a run over the Banks is the more easier option.
Thanks for the information, Marlingford. I thought the Hunters Chase for the Bishopscourt Cup was also a Banks race since it is targeted by the likes of Peter Maher, Philip Rothwell and so on who usually have loads of runners over the Punchestown Banks.
Well now, you can sadly add An Droichead Eile to that list of Banks fatalities. It happened in the race in which Peter Maher also had the first two home.
PU, 10th from 12, Fell 4th. Those were his only races over the Punchestown Banks.
