I haven’t had a sports bet for ages, maybe 18 months now. I had to empty my lovingly-nurtured Betfair, bet365 and William Hill accounts last year to spend money on important things, like food. :(

In truth, I didn’t follow racing too closely for most of the intervening time. I don’t want to start betting again until I feel properly familiarised with all of the horses again. Judging by the state of my tipping lately, it could be a while longer!

    Can’t say I haven’t been

    gambling

though. Poker is a helluva drug.

One of the great advantages of my temperament is that unlike the average racing fan and betting nut, a losing streak depletes my appetite: disaster becomes self-limiting instead of the usual benny hill chase after losses.

Apart from a free bet when winning a monthly comp in the 4PP a couple of years back it is four years since I’ve had a bet.

    I don’t swear, I don’t gamble, I don’t smoke and I don’t drink.

I’ve been around 3 weeks without a bet from time to time. Like Prof indicates, after a losing run a break can refresh the batteries. It also goes some way to prove the punter does not need a bet.

You should simply never ever put your stake at risk and always cover your money so you cant lose.Problem with that is the bookies hate winners and your accounts get limited or worse cancelled
