Can’t work out which emoticon to use:-
August 22, 2009 at 01:33 #245220No, of course I jest and obviously it’s great to have new members but I don’t see how someone’s attendance makes it obvious whether a horse was in or out of form. With 2 channels at our disposable we had several excellent judges (Fallon and Francombe on C4, Mellish, Lydia and Willo I imagine on RUK?) with several thousands of pounds put on the horse at around the 4/11 mark. We also had close-up shots in-running of the horse which those in attendance wouldn’t have had.
I don’t rate the 3yos that highly, especially not the fillies and it’s feasible that the ground or her being in season was to blame and I do admit it’s strange that for a horse of her stature (amongst her own age group I hasten to add) that Spencer had so little reign left with 7f to run.
However he offered absolutely no excuses at the end and the only possible excuses are that she was in season and that Bell is out of form.
August 22, 2009 at 02:56 #245238The colts are far and away a better bunch than last year with Sea The Stars and Rip van Winkle confirming this against older opposition. Rip Van Winkle easy beat Paco Boy who did well against some useful sorts in the Marois although I believe he was disqualified 3 months later.
Hard to say if Ghanaati is up there with the fillies, the Sun Chariot should confirm how far she has come.
August 22, 2009 at 03:21 #245242Talk of the Sun Chariot has prompted me about the autumn programme. It gets a bit crowded in terms of races, doesn’t it?
I don’t think that New Approach got the accolades he deserved for winning the Champion Stakes (in the manner he did) last year. Of course, the riposte will be, well, what did he beat?
It will probably be a similar story this year. I think it is on Oct 17th, and there are 65 horses in the betfair market, none of which are bigger than 65! Who do people reckon will turn up? Will a horse run here, and then turn up for the Breeders’ Cup in early November?
August 23, 2009 at 22:47 #245432I think we have yet to see the best mile and half horse

Fame and glory would be the Bookies fav to be best 11/2m 3yo,i wouldn"t dissagree with that, Sea the stars would be the best 11/4m 3yo, Mastercraftsman ahead of Rip Van Winkle and Delegator for the 1m contest, Finjaan over 7f and Art Connoisseur over 6f IMO, the horse i still see as a danger to all is Gan Amhras!! Ghanaati is as good a 3yo filly as i have seen over a 1m so on the whole an excellent crop of 3yo"s!

What are the plans for Gan Amhras?? His last two runs were at a time when Bolger’s horses were running terribly. Everything else from the guineas has come out and run well.
Zarkava, when will you give FAG a bit of credit. I know he hasn’t beaten anything of note but he pished up in the Irish Derby, and the slow early pace at Epsom wouldn’t have aided him at all.
August 25, 2009 at 23:01 #245764Zarkava might start giving Fame And Glory some credit on New Years’ Day when he turns 4!
We’ve got to the stage on here where nearly every race run proves that the 3yos are an awful crop…………………
Its hardly the fault of the 3yos that the older horses are pish poor this season.

But some of us know different!

He was entered for the Irish Champion stakes, i backed him at 70 on the machine, but wouldn"t run on Soft ground anyway! He also holds entries for the QE2 at Ascot and the Champion Stakes at Newmarket! He would be a threat to all on his day!
