The Waterloo Hurdle at Haydock, used to be some sort of CH trial. Where has it gone now?
The EBF NH Novices’ Hurdle over 2m5f, used to be a very decent novices’ hurdle with loads of great hurdlers and chasers being unleashed there.
And why was the Persian War moved form February to November and then even to October? I remember Mighty Mogul winning it back in February of 1992

Chepstow also had a really good novices’ hurdle the Saturday before Cheltenham. I remember watching Carobee demolish his field (which included Mighty Mogul, funnily enough) in a canter in that race in 1992.

The Swish Hurdle (until 1992) which became the Beaufort Hurdle afterwards (with the likes of Winter Squall, Relkeel or Challenger Du Luc winning it).

In 1997 it was run as the Peter O’Sullevan Hurdle and was still restricted to 5 year olds, but they got rid of it after the 1998/1999 season with Bacchanal being the last winner of the race. Brings back some nice memories considering not only the winners of it, but the also-rans as well, i.e. Book of Music, Lake Kariba or Around the Gale.

I seem to remember The Waterloo Hurdle was the race that once was stopped mid race and then started again and then ended up covering four miles

That race involved Mighty Mogul, too.

Perhaps this should be renamed The Mighty Mogul Thread.
