I once topped Hemingway Joe, with my three word short story that won the same wager by having grown men bawling up and down the country:-
"Time For Rupert"
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 23, 2015 at 22:42 #502596The rivalry between England and Ireland, especially at Cheltenham, is what sets me on fire. I’ll be quite frank and say that I hate it when Ireland get a real superstar or two … which explains why I’m dead set on The New One on lowering the colours of Faugheen
I’m well aware that Faugheen is something special and that Mr Mullins’ stranglehold on Chelters is gonna choke many of our English challengers but I need to see Faugheen get hammered
On the bright side of it all at least you wont have to listen to the quipco music when Faugheen bolts in.
If I go though do you look out for me I’ll be waving an adopted Irish flag with a bucket of Guinness in hand and wearing my Faugheen The Machine t-shirt and stood next to the lucky Leprechaun. Now that’ll be a mistake on your part Nathan because when your beloved Faugheen succumbs to the strong challenge of The New One, I’ll have a custom T-Shirt made for you with the words "Faugheen The Has-Been" on the front
January 23, 2015 at 22:52 #502600That would be a dark day Mr Ghost would have to be a black t-shirt that.

Blackbeard to conquer the World
January 24, 2015 at 11:14 #502679Personally love to take on all of these super-hyped horses from the Richard Hannon yard – often to my own financial detriment. Canford Cliffs, Toronado, Olympic Glory and most recently Tiggy Wiggy and Ivawood.
What!!

Yeh and to fall whilst still in contention too…
Thats how racing affects you….When some smart Ar*e tries to be clever Human nature wants us to see them fail!January 25, 2015 at 00:36 #502822For me, from a punter point of view, the horse I always enjoyed seeing get beat was Hawkwing. Just so I could say "told ya!" to everyone who overhyped the horse.
Strictly because the name repulses me, Just Cameron is my current pet hateJanuary 29, 2015 at 19:34 #503359Flemenstar
. Nothing against him as a perfectly honest horse, but I didn’t like his army of supporters making him out to be something extraordinary. To my mind, he just snaffled Grade 1s in the early part of the season when his main rivals had bigger fish to fry.
He was always found wanting later in the year in the real showpiece races.

The main issue with Flemenstar was that they tried to make three miler out of him, something which he most certainly was not. And to make things worse they rode him completely differently, restraining the horse when his jumping was taking lengths out of his opponents. Maybe if they had just let him bowl along in the Lexus they would have known for certain that he didn’t get the trip and they could have went for something like the Ascot Chase as opposed to another run over three miles in the Hennessy. Was reportedly sick after that run, missed Cheltenham but ran at Aintree when they’d probably have been as well off leaving him off given his earlier exertions over trips that were too far. Was very disappointed with how they campaigned him.
March 15, 2015 at 22:08 #836989Cannot wait until the day to see Faugheen get beaten. Hopefully, by a british-trained horse!

It’ll happen in the 2019 Grand National, when The New One will finally come with that sparkling turn of foot as they are coming to the Elbow and spurt clear for a ten length success.

March 16, 2015 at 01:00 #839075The only horse I’ve ever wanted to see get beaten was Kingman, Night of Thunder did it in the 2000 Guineas but he soon reversed that when they met again and never looked back.
For me he came on the scene too soon after Sea The Stars and Frankel and John Gosden always had that look on his face that he knew he was going to win the battle with Hannon and of course he did.
I always believed that Richard Hughes could have used better tactics in his races against him to quicken the pace and catch him flat footed but that never happened, it was like watching Pete Sampras at Wimbledon scoring Aces all day long.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 16, 2015 at 08:47 #841430Bring back Steve Cauthen, I’ll say. He’ll show this lot how to ride a race properly!
Only joking, of course.

I always believed that Richard Hughes could have used better tactics in his races against him to quicken the pace and catch him flat footed but that never happened, it was like watching Pete Sampras at Wimbledon scoring Aces all day long.Sadly for me, Kingman’s only defeat came the only time I had money on him. I had backed Toormore at 20/1 ante post and decided to that Kingman at 9/1 was worth a bet as well. Just to compound the frustration, I did a forecast on the day, Kingman to beat Night Of Thunder, and didn’t reverse it in the belief that the latter horse could not turn the Greenham form around. How wrong I was.

March 16, 2015 at 12:10 #842565I forgot what good value Kingman was that day Steve. Toormore (my choice also) was beaten as they met the dip and as Kingman took the lead on the far side he idled a little in front and Night of Thunder’s Fallon took the iniative to move Night of Thunder across to the better ground and snatched the race in the final strides.
If they had raced as a group in the centre of the course as they did in the 1000 Guineas the next day, won by Miss France, I’m sure the result would have been different. With Kingman, Australia and Night of Thunder forced to take each other on up the centre of the track I’m pretty sure Australia would have come out on top he was unlucky to have been drawn 10 and Joseph O’Brien had to decide which side to take him, I think he lost momentum coming over to the stands side, but that’s all heresay now..roll on the 2015 Guineas and hope they all stay in the centre this year.
