I see in the Tattenham Corner column on the Guardian site today that no sooner had the horses arrived in the paddock for the big race yesterday, than it was time for the jockeys get mounted bell to ring.
It would seem that no lessons have been learned from last year’s Derby, so what I’m going to do now is, completely free of charge, explain how to solve this problem. I did post on this matter a few months ago, but I’ll try again.
I attended Ellerslie Park races one day in Auckland earlier this year, and for each race, there was, printed on the racecard, the time by which horses had to be in the parade ring, and also the time when they were required to leave it in order to go to the start. Penalties existed for those who didn’t comply.
Anyway, that’s the solution, not too complicated, eh?
Perhaps one of our sport’s well-paid and extravagantly pensioned administrators could find time to implement this?

Admirable. The paddock experience is amongst the most attractive – and informative – aspects of the Racing Experience, and it’s difficult to understand why and how the racecourses, not to mention RFC, don’t crack down hard on offenders.
Personally, I’d like to see some small refund on my RUK subscription for every time they fail to give us even a glimpse of this vital part of proceedings. It is quite bizarre, and totally baffling as a paddock cam would hardly break the bank.

Blimey what are you looking for, miracles?

Seriously, I totally agree with you there is no excuse for all horses not to be in the parade well before the mounting of jockeys. They should greatly increase the value of the fine given to trainers who fail to get their horses into the paddock in good time, and if this continues to happen report them to the BHA

July 26, 2010 at 22:14 #308955It would seem that no one has been taken to task over this. No surprise there.
