Anyone seen Grant & the RSPCA or are they too busy dealing with the Grand National?
January 19, 2013 at 12:47 #426875Very upsetting report, the rspca need to get their priorities right, what do people think about, online bookies giving punters the option to donate 20p by ticking a box when they place a bet, as a big chain of hotels do for a selected charity, this way we can all give a little back to the upkeep of retired racehorses.
January 19, 2013 at 14:23 #426888I try to defend racing on another forum. But I don’t know what I can say when things like this happen/are happening. Maybe it was better when the hunts were able to euthanize sick or old horses [maybe they still do; I’m not involved with horses in a hands on way any longer]. I’m horrified by that video, even more so at the thought[possibly] of horses suffering like that after being transported to France which I assume still happens. Thanks yeats for showing us this. It’s important that we don’t bury our heads in the sand to this sort of thing. But, what to do? Yet again I agree about the RSPCA.

If people feel strongly about it, the answer is to donate directly to a charity that supports the horses.
I personally cannot abide the "option" of making a "charity donation" when purchasing a service or product – it’s nothing short of emotional blackmail. I now avoid, where possible, the hotel chains who operate this system.
Also what guarantee is there the money will actually go to the charity concerned?
January 19, 2013 at 22:05 #426942Is this really any different to smaller furry animals being abused by the "hunting, shooting set"?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains

moehat,
How many of us believe the company statement that these were isolated incidents and not the norm?
CCTV is common in many workplaces and streets these days, I see no good reason why abattoirs couldn’t all be made to have CCTV. Surely this is something the RSPCA and other organizations should be pressing for if they’re concerned about animal cruelty.
It would also be good to see the BHA question connections of some of the ex racehorses. The horse named was last trained by Will Kinsey, it would be interesting to know why and how he had to be saved from the slaughterhouse by an animal sanctuary.
