Copy arrived today – no surprise to find engagement continuing to be relatively low compared to olden times. The top French trainers rarely respond now, no Dermot Weld, J P O’Brien, Gordon Elliot; Richard Fahey continues to decline to complete the form, Michael Stoute continuing to not list his juveniles along with John & Thady (think this has only happened since Thady went on the licence). I realise it’s a profit making publication and trainers are not obliged to assist but it is comparative to top footy teams not being required to reveal their squads to the general public. GB trainers have to report their teams to the BHA and I believe have a certain amount of days to report new inmates, but you have to be registered to view this information. The BHA supposedly seeks to promote the sport in good light and I do not see any harm in making available this information to the public where at the touch of a button we can all see up to date details of the inmates in all licensed yards.
Some thoughts after a quick perusal – as expected George Boughey’s yard continues to strengthen both in numbers and quality – 27 years after his Epsom Derby winner William Haggas has his strongest ever looking bunch of juveniles – Clive Cox continues to be stereotyped as trainer of speedy types with not a single middle distance pedigree amongst the two year olds despite having the distinction of training an ex Donald McCain animal to beat an Arc winner in a Royal Ascot G1 – just 18 juveniles listed in training at the mighty Beckhampton – 49 older horses in training with Charlie Appleby including Adayar,Hurricane Lane, Native Trail along with God knows how many lovely lard bellied Dubawi’s – 14 older horses in training at Ballydoyle including Luxembourg who is probably up to now the only Camelot who could be marketed as a useful flat stallion prospect – only two American Pharaohs amongst the 101 juveniles, they seem to have given up hope that he’ll make a top grade turf stallion – a dozen Justify’s amongst the two year olds, four Camelots but no Churchill’s despite him giving some renewed optimism last season.

March 26, 2023 at 06:50 #1641496He’s listed with an Irish 2023 fee of 30,000 Euro, up from 25,000 Euro for the previous season thanks mainly to Vadini, and he’s not residing at any of the of their three NH stud.
Their highest two advertised NH fees for this year are Crystal Ocean and Soldier of Fortune both at 8,000, Walk In The Park is listed as ‘private’ though he has fertility issues.I know that Richi Ricci sent a couple of his mares to Australia two years ago but at 25,000 I don’t think they have plans to mark him as ‘dual purpose’ anytime soon.
I think the highest fee anywhere for a dual purpose stallion at the moment is Doctor Dino in France who I believe stands for around 20,000 Euro.
