I managed to work out the VR Rank formula and the one I have is very similar to yours above. Rushing off to work now so will reply in more detail tonight.

Yep I spotted that HRB show both old and new ratings sets. Cheers for the heads up in any case.
Today it didn’t matter if they were old or new ratings the selections ran well but not well enough. From the 5 I mentioned there was one winner at 4/5 and I even managed to get a 4/9 shot beat.
In summary from 5 selections: 1 winner, 3 came second and 1 unplaced.
I’ll post again tomorrow the basic top 4 but I’m going to do some digging into HRB to analyse when the ratings perform best.
Discretedata – Cheers for the formula. For the VR I simply multiply the rating by 100 then divide by prize money and pull this formula down the column. Also I should apologise (or ask if its ok) for taking on a system you started. I don’t expect I’ll post the rating for that long. Guess I’ll see what feedback comes my way. I’ll post any tweaks I suggest after my trawl through HRB – suspect 10 plus VR, no odds on, no last time out winners are my starters for ten.

Fortunately I am registered with horseracebase anyway so it’s not too much trouble for me to drum up an excel sheet.
I am trying to be true to discretedata’s original method and am indeed using Hrb’s original ratings which are still available.Also,along the thread,somebody suggested that ratings over 10+ were having a lot of success so I am keeping track of those also.As discretedata has suggested,perhaps this idea may be a base for other methods.
It is certainly a refreshing idea and I thank discretedata.3/11
