Gamble’s obsession with them has made me think of how many I’ve joined over the last twelve or thirteen years.I reckon it must be about eleven, which will put me two or three behind the likes of Gamble and Ian Davies.
The Sportsman has been mentioned a fair bit lately, and it also had a forum of which I was a proud member. The usual suspects were also on there in its short life. A bit of needle between certain people in the game as well

Any forumites on here care to share their thoughts on racing forums in general?
November 23, 2013 at 10:18 #459446This was the first one I joined and by far the best. I’m a member of talkinghorses which is ok and has plenty of TRF guys and girls on there. betfair is an eye opener but not for me. Non racing I am a member of Grockles(Somerset CCC) which gets very heated with any negative feedback on the team, hence I let my frustrations out on the team here in the general sports.

November 23, 2013 at 11:05 #459477It was an established rule in here
under the Daylight Dynasty that it
was bad form in here to mention
any holiday destinations
I believe that rule has been largely
abandoned apart from direct
promotions I suspectMy accounts of favourite houses
dates back years.I liked the
little dusty ones where words
seem to reverberate around the walls
with huge and sometimes dangerous impact,
and filled with a small number of
very strange fishSome of the little breakaway Flutter
satellite fora like Dougs Place were
particular favourites. You just wanted
to find out who wasn’t a clone ?
I had no idea Mr P that the Sportsman had a forum
but I do not participate on any apart from
here in burst,s and the odd posting in the UltimateNovember 23, 2013 at 11:11 #459478Lots of splashing then …..
, this one is pretty good , occasional bursts of brilliance . however mundane is the general order….Flame away

November 23, 2013 at 16:56 #459562I started this for Gamble really, as I thought his post about some of the people who’d been banned from here looked a little out of place on the Q&As thread.
He may not post on hardly any now but has been on most over the years, going right back to Flutter. The short-lived Betdaq forum was one of the few where he wasn’t sighted.
November 23, 2013 at 18:50 #459582Quite a circuitous route Mr P.
Yes, possibly inadvisable, but it
was not those banned rather defectors.
As Prufrock was a defector on another
forum there was an oblique connection.
Also as Prufrock is a member I felt it OK.In fact you are right,it was off topic,
and I am guilty of hijacking the thread.
November 23, 2013 at 19:06 #459584You’ve made me feel bad now
November 23, 2013 at 19:19 #459587No worries Mr Pilsen
in this matter you were right
and I was wrong, and good of you
to point it out. It had occurred to
me after I wrote it but by
then it was a little late
Quite a few will have a laugh
seeing me on bended knee
November 24, 2013 at 10:14 #459634From the hijacking:
Thank you Drone for correcting my omission
of Grasshopper
who would be in the Escorial
class and was a very big name. Possibly
Grasshopper if you are reading this you
might pop in for a friendly or otherwisse,
it’s so long since I had a scoop
Grasshopper is active on the aforementioned Talkinghorses forum: a forum I dallied with earlier this year but the new sandals pinched, the pressed chinos refused to ride up with wear and the cardigan was a crackly acrylic; so it was a bag to Oxfam and return of the familiar warm ‘n’ worn velvet slippers, moleskin breeks and cable-knit wool pullover
I was active on the subs-only Smartsig forum during the early part of this brave new millennium and a few of my fellow Smart wiseacres have turned up on TRF, fleetingly in the main. Interestingly, there was a Nathan Hughes on Smartsig but he was a Mercian if memory serves
Other than that have only been a ghostly guest elsewhere and have felt no desire to indulge in a second home out in the sticks
November 24, 2013 at 11:40 #459643Thank you Drone – interesting all.
Somehow grasshoppers spirit seems
to burn in a strange way in here
despite his ‘physical’absence.
I think that is why I subconsciously
left him off my list.Just to pick up on Ricky’s point
I think it is a lot more muted
on this forum than in the past.
Political correctness and buttoning
things up is the order
of the day and look at the recent
twitter pay outs on libel !
Sadly, the ones that shout
and say what they feel are soon
shuffled near the exit sign
and they often hold the most
interest.
Simon Cowell’s rented holiday yacht is
immeasurably bigger because he was
clever enough to see the value and
commerciality of the ante-hero, and
possibly Razeen, if he can get into a
bikini, is sunning himself on their now
with his trademark can of gold hidden
somewhere in his apparel.June 4, 2014 at 12:18 #481109Maybe not the most timely of junctures at which to mention it, given last weekend marked the tenth anniversary of me signing up to TRF, but
Jumpingforfun
is the racing forum I tend to find myself spending the most time on nowadays.
Fewer flamers, and increasingly enough on there that isn’t Pointing-related to sustain what is (first and foremost) a Pointing forum once the action between the flags has drawn to an end (which it will for 2013-14 a week on Saturday).
I doubt I’ll ever turn my back fully on TRF, mind. Still enough old friends, still enough interesting and downright hilarious posters, still many reasons to pop in whenever circumstances permit.

June 4, 2014 at 21:02 #481139We have a few threads going on Gransnet when it’s Cheltenham/Ascot etc
well, there’s four of us actually.June 7, 2014 at 02:47 #481378I had a profile many moons ago on talkinghorses that got banhammered…
I have an alive one under this current guise on there but I don’t use it as I view TRF as my spiritual home… Mostly because I won a Royal Ascot compy a few years ago and I’ve yet to open my prize (A picture of Galileo signed by AO’B)
I refuse to open it until I have a IRL home to call home. Similarly, when I went to Paris last month, I refused to visit that tower and I will not visit that tower until I have my gf with me at the time. I’m a bit of an old fashioned romantic like that…
There was an account with that nutjob who ended up charging the forum several hundred pounds for membership… Ron something?
I’m also banned from urban75, 4chan and a couple of AR forums for some reason or another. I’d probably be banned from a lot more if I didn’t have a life.
To be perfectly frank, I originally joined this forum as a troll but one thing led to another and now I feel like Cormack is love and love is Cormack.
I once had a boyfriend called Cormack… He was this Irish environmentalist with deep blue eyes and bulging biceps.
I also sporadically frequent some French horsey forum.
June 10, 2014 at 00:17 #481854Well, I did try to warn you about this nutjob. Turns out that he’s even nuttier than I thought
July 12, 2014 at 11:16 #485346Is anyone else having trouble getting on talkinghorses or just me?

Not just you.
That’s where I’ve put my juvenile thread whilst I’m on my boycott/sabbatical of this forum. I thought it was part of that one man crusade against yours truly.
