I’m looking to compile a list of racing’s "Festivals" which are held throughout the year
Some of the bigger ones are more obvious, eg – those with a Gr1 and the trial meetings but what about the lesser ones like Perth’s 3-dayer just finished or Cartmel’s 3-day festival spread over 5 days!
Anyone got any they would like to mention
May 9, 2011 at 14:28 #354647Yarmouth have a summer festival don’t they, or am I thinking of Brighton?
In Ireland, Galway, Listowel, Tipperary (?), Killarney, Bellewstown have 3 up to 6 day festivals ?
May 9, 2011 at 14:35 #354649It seems to me that most are just a grade 3 four miler, and a couple of 0-120 handicap hurdles, padded out with load of dross.

May 9, 2011 at 15:10 #354651The only one Yarmouth advertise is the ‘Eastern Festival’, three midweek days in mid September.
Brighton claim a three day ‘Summer Festival’, the first week in August – i.e the week after Goodwood. When Brighton was more fashionable, this used to be known as the Sussex fortnight.
Newton Abbot dilute the principle even further by calling their two day Sat/Sun meeting in August, the ‘Summer Jumping Festival’, but as they don’t even include a Ladies Day in those two, it’s surely a breach of the trades description act.
Salisbury have branded their two day meeting in August as ‘Salisbury Splendour’, and it does include a Group race. But Salisbury specialise in poor imitations, as their 2011 music line-up confirms – The Rolling Clones, Counterfeit Quo and Killer Queen!

May 9, 2011 at 15:27 #354652An interesting point regards these "festivals" is they’re classed the same as Saturdays for the horse racing tariffs, so presumably we will be getting some hefty increases in prize money at the likes of Brighton & Yarmouth. Will be a nice boost for racehorse owners.

Here’s the link to the Festivals which are treated separately for tariff purposes:

I’m sure Brighton and Yarmouth will be breathing a sigh of relief
