Good or bad for UK racing/breeding industries?
October 6, 2014 at 18:22 #491666How many are going to end up in a cooking pot?
October 6, 2014 at 22:51 #491675interesting statement on that government link:
>> Horse racing is Britain’s second most popular spectator sport with more than 6 million race-goers each year watching 4.3 million riders across 60 racecourses.<<
for the China aspect:
a. mainland China is not a member of the IFHA, though a Beijing university does run the China Stud Book:
http://www.horseracingintfed.com/Defaul … FHA&area=5b. the nearest thing to proper racing in mainland China is the Conghua facility currently under construction by the HKJC – and that initially will be used exclusively for horses racing in HK
c. all the eventing at the Olympics was in HK under the HKJC
d. HK has long sorted out equine health certificates, with all horses racing in HK being imports
e. curious therefore where these horses are going to end up on the mainland.

4.3 million riders?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysOctober 7, 2014 at 20:57 #491707such appears to be the information available to HMG (last para in HMG’s press release on the OP’s hyperlink).
October 8, 2014 at 15:25 #491748Three million riders needed only if all the horses are entered in the same race.Highly unlikely.
