Even without their so-called top trainers. Skelton has opted to keep his horses fresh and so did Nicholls. Apparently he keeps them a bit fresher for Aintree and Skelton finally needs a top-jockey, imo.

Edwardstone and Constitution Hill are as good any as anything from Ireland and even though the Irish win more G1 races, the home team has impressed me a lot. Solid performances in most of the handicaps and they’re very competitive even in defeat.

Hope Day 4 is as good as the first three days.

And another winning day for the home team…. The score is only 10-11. Is the draw still realistic?

A big thing I was mulling over at lunchtime when I was looking at the Kim Muir was just how poor the Irish Novice Chasers look this year. Three of Gordon’s in particular (I’ve backed two of them for my sins) carry the same form line and all were very well backed this year in handicaps – Floueur, Grand Paradis and Frontal Assault and they’ve all run appallingly. Edwardstone is a good horse but he walked the Arkle. L’Homme Presse similarly excellent but it was Ahoy Senor who jumped like a walking wardrobe who picked up 2nd ahead of the Irish. Gallopin would have been an excellent winner of course and if things had gone to plan you’d suspect either Ferny Hollow or Appreciate It would have been too good for Edwardstone but otherwise they look very ordinary on what I’ve seen this week.
